INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Scope and editorial policy

MISSION:

Disseminate refereed articles on progress and/or reports on research results in the field of Legal and Criminal Sciences, and other related disciplines; as well as essays and community experiences, linked to these areas, from an emerging and complex vision of the phenomenon; with the purpose of contributing and providing contributions in:

  • Theoretical contexts
  • Epistemological contexts
  • Methodological contexts
  • Social Contexts
  • Legislative and Jurisprudential Contexts

VISION:

To be a medium that promotes spaces for socialization and research participation of a pluri-inter and transdisciplinary nature that promotes the search and construction of knowledge, the dissemination of works, essays, investigations, experiences in favor of the consolidation of knowledge and research in the field of Legal and Criminal Sciences, serving as a bridge of encouragement and support for the permanent and professional training of collaborators.

PERIODICITY:

Semesterly January and July.

The Iustitia Socialis Magazine will publish the first month (last day of the month) of the publication period (January and July):

  • January - June (First day of the first month)

  • July - December (First day of the first month)

With approval of the editorial board; Ordinary numbers may be published before the start of the declared period. Approved articles will be published in the immediately available issue.

ACADEMIC AND SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY ADDRESSED:

The Arbitrated Journal Iustitia Socialis receives articles from researchers, scientists, undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students, teachers and professionals whose purpose is to expand knowledge in the entire area of ​​Legal and Criminal Sciences for the development of human beings in society.

The Magazine has no charge for sending and processing articles. Does not charge APC.

 

Form and preparation of manuscripts

EDITORIAL STANDARDS

    General:

  1. Articles must be original and unpublished; in addition to not being nominated simultaneously in other journals. They will be submitted to arbitration for selection and publication from the double-blind peer evaluation system; where the evaluators do not know the identity of the authors of the articles, and the authors do not know the identity of the evaluators. All evaluators and referees are external to the Magazine and the Foundation. Articles other than Spanish and English will be received.

  2. Articles sent to the Journal must have a maximum of four (4) collaborators, including the main one. The exception to this rule will be submitted to the editorial committee for consideration, based on the criteria of originality, relevance, contribution and extension of the research process developed in the article.

  3. The Magazine is published every six months (ordinary issues).

  4. The journal may produce extraordinary issues (special editions), prior agreement with groups, networks, institutions and organizations, that carry out research events such as conferences, forums, conferences, presentations, among others, for which it is essential to present the articles adjusted to these editorial standards.

  5. Contributors of ordinary and extraordinary issues must register in the OJS (Open Journal Systems) of the Journal: (http://fundacionkoinonia.com.ve/ojs/index.php/Iustitia_Socialis). If you are already registered, it will not be necessary to do it again
  6. On the type and structure of the articles:

  7. The articles will be classified as (see table 1):

    • Research: Of maximum originality and innovation. They collect the results of unpublished research, theoretical or experimental, qualitative or quantitative. The original aspects of the research must be clearly appreciated. It is structured in title in Spanish and English, names and surnames of the author or authors, email address of each of the authors in gmail preference, institution to which they belong (indicating city and country), ORCID identifiers, summary, descriptors, abstract , keywords, introduction (includes statement of the topic or problem, objectives or purposes, justification or importance, theoretical reference), methodology, discussion, results, references consulted (only those used in the citation of the article). It must contain a number of no less than 10 reference citations.

    • Review: They describe and/or compile the most recent developments or published works on a certain topic, always providing some improvement, complement or original perspective that must also be expressly highlighted. They are a theoretical synthesis and a current vision of the topic addressed and, above all, highlight what may be a novel contribution to it. It must contain a number of no less than 25 reference citations. It is structured in title in Spanish and English, names and surnames of the author or authors, email address of each of the authors in gmail preference, institution to which they belong (indicating city and country), ORCID identifier, summary, descriptors, abstract , keywords, introduction (presentation of the topic), development of the review, contributions generated from the review, references consulted (only those used in the citation of the article).

    • De reflexión: Describen experiencias positivas en la aplicación de tecnologías, métodos y saberes actuales con logros reseñables en cualquier campo, con preferencia en casos que supongan aportaciones de mejora o detalles originales que también deben destacarse expresamente. Reflejará las “experiencias positivas” que se han obtenido con la aplicación real de técnicas o conocimientos, primándose consideraciones que presenten a aporte al saber universal. Debe contener un número no menor de 25 citas referenciales. Se estructura en título en español e inglés, nombres y apellidos del autor o los autores, correo electrónico de cada uno de los autores en preferencia gmail, institución a la cual pertenecen (señalando ciudad y país), identificador ORCID, resumen, descriptores, abstract, keywords, introducción (presentación del tema), desarrollo de la reflexión, aportes generados de la reflexión, referencias consultadas (solo las empleadas en la citación del artículo).

    • For reflection: They describe positive experiences in the application of current technologies, methods and knowledge with notable achievements in any field, with preference in cases that involve contributions for improvement or original details that must also be expressly highlighted. It will reflect the “positive experiences” that have been obtained with the real application of techniques or knowledge, giving priority to considerations that contribute to universal knowledge. It must contain a number of no less than 25 reference citations. It is structured in title in Spanish and English, names and surnames of the author or authors, email address of each of the authors in gmail preference, institution to which they belong (indicating city and country), ORCID identifier, summary, descriptors, abstract , keywords, introduction (presentation of the topic), development of the reflection, contributions generated from the reflection, references consulted (only those used in the citation of the article).


    • Editorial: Topics of editorial interest are proposed in an expository-argumentative way. Works commissioned by the Director and/or Editor.

  8. On the type and structure of the articles:

  9. The articles will be written without indentation and without spaces between paragraphs, only to separate titles and subtitles up to a maximum of 5 levels. The use of vignettes will be reduced to the essential minimum.


  10. Articles must be written in electronic format, with 1.5 spacing, font size 12 (Arial), with right, left, bottom and top margins of 2.5 cm, on letter size paper in Format: DOC.

    The maximum length of Research articles will be 25 pages (not including title, authors and summaries). Articles with descriptive content (review and reflection) will have a maximum length of 25 pages. The title of the article should not exceed 15 words.

    Each article must present a summary of no more than 150 words, and 5 descriptors, in English and Spanish (including the title and descriptors). The descriptors must be separated by a semicolon (;) and must not have capital letters and will be structured based on the UNESCO Thesaurus, both in Spanish and English (http://vocabularies.unesco.org/browser/thesaurus/es/).

  11. The summary of the research article will be structured in an indicative – informative way, which must contain: Objective or main purpose of the research, brief description of the methodology used, present the discussion of the most relevant results and conclusions.

  12. The summary of the articles under the typology: Review and Reflection; They will be developed under the “unstructured indicative – descriptive type”, where the typology of the article and the most notable contributions will be mentioned, which will complement what is stated in the body of the work (do not repeat information found in the body of the article).

  13. The Editorial Committee may establish exceptions in works that, due to their originality or contribution, require a greater length; thus respecting the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) subscribed by this journal (https://sfdora.org/read/ es/).

  14. APA standards, sixth edition, will be used for citing bibliographic sources referenced in the body of the article, taking into consideration when they are less or more than 40 words, as well as the number of authors, type of referenced document.   15. The references consulted will be placed at the end of the article in alphabetical order. It must be included, next to the title of the reference in Spanish; the English title in square brackets.

  16. Tables, figures or graphs must be numbered according to the order in which they appear in the text, with Arabic numbers, followed by a brief title. At the end of tables, figures or graphs the source must be indicated. Charts, tables and graphs will be presented in Microsoft Word® or Excel® format, as long as they are editable, and images (figures, maps or photos), in JPG format; PNG (resolution greater than or equal to 300 dpi).

    Editorial Process:

  18. Contributors will upload the article to the Journal's OJS. View or download article model. At the beginning of the article, the names and surnames of the collaborator or collaborators, their address (electronic), institution of affiliation or community (indicating city and country) and their respective ORCID must be specified (https://orcid.org/). Contributors must fill out everything requested in the boxes when registering and uploading the article.

    Write and send an affidavit of responsibility and originality of the article. See number 32 of these rules.


  19. The article will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee, so that in a period of no more than 7 continuous days; issue its decision of approval or non-approval for the initiation of the arbitration process in the journal. Articles not approved by the Editorial Committee may not be resubmitted for arbitration in any of the Koinonía Foundation Magazines.

  21. If the decision of the Editorial Committee is approved, the article will be sent for evaluation under the double-blind pair system.

  22. Al notificarse la aprobación del artículo para iniciar el proceso de arbitraje; el autor deberá subir el mismo; con las correcciones emanadas del comité editorial, al Sistema OJS de la Revista para así inicial el proceso de arbitraje.

  23. The articles will be evaluated based on 4 core criteria:

    • Originality / Innovation of research.

    • Utility / Social and cultural relevance.

    • Expository clarity of the text.

    • Scientific rigor from the assumed investigative paradigm or approach / Argumentation / Conclusions or final considerations.


  24. The articles are refereed and classified in the following categories: Approved, Approved with modifications and not Approved.

  25. Originality, relevance, style and contributions to the field will be evaluated.

  26. For the arbitration of the articles, double-blind peer evaluation will be carried out; where the evaluators do not know the identity of the authors of the articles, and the authors do not know the identity of the evaluators.

  27. The work of the evaluators is strictly confidential. The magazine is not responsible for the actions of the evaluators, who are completely autonomous

  28. The articles will be submitted to evaluators external to the Magazine and the Foundation. Depending on the observations and recommendations made by the evaluators, modifications may be requested from the author or authors to improve the quality of the work.

  29. In the arbitration process, the evaluators and the authors will remain in mutual ignorance to guarantee the neatness of the process. In case of discrepancies between the evaluators, the final decision will be made by the Director and/or Editor and the Editorial Committee, which will be informed to the interested parties within a maximum period of 30 business days after receiving the evaluation.

  30. The writings published in Iustitia Socialis. Arbitrated Journal of Legal and Criminal Sciences are the exclusive responsibility of the authors, both for their opinions, statements and methods.

  31. The evaluators will have a period of 30 continuous days, from receipt of the article, to send the evaluation report to the Director and/or Editor. The Director and/or Editor will send said report to the author within a maximum period of 5 continuous days. The projected period between receipt of the article and its publication is 8 weeks.

  32. The final decision on the evaluation process, publication or not of the articles rests exclusively with the Director and/or Editor and the Editorial Committee, and will be made based on the suggestions/observations/recommendations issued by the evaluators. All articles are subjected to an editorial evaluation process, even when they have been reviewed by experts; and if necessary, appropriate recommendations will be sent to the authors to improve the quality of the articles to be published.

  33. Conflicts of interest arising from the verdict of an article will be resolved by the journal's Editorial Ethics Committee, which is supported by the provisions of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). https://publicationethics.org/ . As well as what is established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICJME). These recommendations are available at: http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/

  34. In the event that any ethical misconduct is detected in publication at the beginning, during the editorial process or after publication, the Journal will take the necessary corrective measures based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (www. .publicationethics.org), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) (http://www.icmje.org/) and the Council of Science Editors (CSE) (https://www.councilscienceeditors.org/), which can include the rejection or retraction of the article, the prohibition of publication of future articles for all authors in the Journal, notification to other journals, as well as communication to the respective authorities (institution of origin, institution that financed the study, professional associations and ethics committees).

    The most frequent forms of unethical principles in publication are: plagiarism, inappropriate authorship and redundant publication:

    Plagiarism: All publication proposals will be reviewed by a text similarity detection program (Similarity Check). Proposals containing a high percentage of similarity will not be accepted (more than 10%).

    Inadequate authorship: Participation in authorship and the order of appearance in the article is the responsibility of the authors, the magazine has no influence in these aspects. Authors should not make changes to the number and order of authors once the editorial process has started.

    Redundant publication (duplicate publication and fragmented publication): The Journal does not accept duplicate publication. If this error is incurred and its occurrence is demonstrated, the authors submit to the guidelines established by COPE.

  36. The controversies that could be generated about the published knowledge will be the responsibility of the author or authors of the article, who may be contacted via email, a judgment or discussion may be issued on the topic addressed, as long as this is done in a academic and scientific climate, thus developing a feedback process that builds science and knowledge.

  37. With approval of the editorial board; Ordinary numbers may be published before the start of the declared period. Approved articles will be published in the immediately available issue.

  38. What is not contemplated in these editorial standards will be submitted by the Editorial Committee of the Magazine.

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify that their submission meets all of the elements shown below. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to the authors.

The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
