Abstract Cashew is worldwide accepted by its fruit and multiple uses of it and of the tree, and characteristics of the existent materials for their use as a pattern are unknown, therefore, germination and the morphological characteristics of cashew seedlings yellow type.
Abstract Microalgal culture in non axenic conditions can be used as food source for aquaculture species, wastewater treatment and in axenic conditions for the extraction of valuable chemicals. However, the response of the microalgae in axenics conditions can be modulated with respect to non axenic conditions. The aim of this study was to test the response of the microalga Chlorella sorokiniana in function of pH (5, 6, 7, 8 and 9), temperature (25, 30, 37, 40 and 42°C) and salinity (15, 25 and 35 ppm) in non-axenic and axenic cultures. All bioassays were carried out with photoperiod 12:12h, 98µmol.quanta.m-2.s-1, 28ºC. Non-axenic cultures in ALGAL medium and by triplicate were maintained at volume of 250ml in flasks with 500ml in capacity. Whereas, axenic cultures by fire replicas were carried out in test tubes with volume of 15ml in autotrophic, mixotrophic and heterotrophic conditions with organotrophic and ALGAL medium. In non-axenic cultures, the microalga was more sensible to salinity, temperature and pH below 5, with optimal growth at 30°C and pH 7-8 in non saline medium. Instead, in axenic conditions, the microalga was able to grow up to 42°C, pH above 3 and salinity up to 35 ppm in mixotrophy, reaching the highest growth at pH 7-8, between 0 and 25 ppm and 37°C. Chlorophyll synthesis was older in non axenic cultures. These results suggest that the response of C. sorokiniana, to pH, temperature and salinity can be modulated by associated bacterial flora Effects of Trichoderma harzianum fungus on the incidence of the charcoal rot disease on sesame http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0378-78182006000100004&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Se estudió el efecto del hongo Trichoderma harzianum sobre la incidencia de la pudrición carbonosa en ajonjolí.
Abstract The effect of the Trichoderma harzianum fungus on the incidence of the charcoal rot disease in sesame was studied. The ways of using Trichoderma harzianum fungus, the application of the seed; application in clay granules and application in rice grains were evaluated. The evaluation was carried out for three years, on a plot infested naturally, located at the experimental field Turén, and for a year on infection beds located at INEA, Portuguesa and artificially inoculated with 400 sclerotium of M. phaseolina / g of soil. The variance analysis combined for the three years of the essay did not show statistical differences between years neither between treatments, but it did between the interaction year x treatment, subsequently evaluating each year separately obtaining an inconsistency in results by the absence of statistical differences between treatments for each year. The same result was observed in the analysis of the information obtained on the infection beds. These results do not show any difference of T. Harzianum on the incidence of the charcoal rot, also evidenced the necessity of evaluating cultural practices that might improve the environmental conditions that allows the fungus T. Harzianum to develop all its antagonist capacity Effect of some factors post-harvest on the sensory quality of the Criollo cocoa porcelana (Theobroma cacao L.) http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0378-78182006000100005&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en El cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) ha tenido una gran importancia en el desarrollo agrícola del país desde la época de la colonia, debido a la producción de cacao de alta calidad (porcelana y chuao).
Cocoa (Theobroma cocoa L.) has had a great importance in the agricultural development of the country since the time of the colony, due to the production of high quality cocoa (porcelana and chuao). To guarantee this quality it is important a good handling of the crop that includes a suitable practical post-crop (fermentation and dried). Therefore, the aim of this research is to evaluate the effect of some factors that influence on the fermentation of porcelain cacao such as: Type of fermentator (TF), removal frequency (FR), endurance of the ear (AM) and type of fermentator (TPF). The methodology consisted on a split plot arrangement design, where three factors were studied (TF, FR and AM), at two levels and the time of fermentation (TPF) at five. The evaluation was sensorial considering the following descriptor: acidity, smell, bitterness, astringency, floral, fruit and global evaluation. Fermented cacao on squared boxes had lower acidity than fermented in rectangle boxes. At the same time, a global evaluation was obtained in cacaos that fermented on squared boxes. In relation to the endurance, the best results of aromatic intensity and global evaluation, as well a lower acidity was obtained for endurance cero. The removal frequency done every 24 hours showed a lower bitterness and higher preference. The time of optimum fermentation was of 48 and 72 hours. These results allow recommending that porcelain cacao must be fermented on squared boxes, with a mass removal every 24 hours, with cero endurance and a time of fermentation that would not surpasses 72 hours Growth, yield and diseases incidence on fruits of guava (Psidium guajava L.) under irrigation http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0378-78182006000100006&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en El riego es un factor determinante en la producción agrícola del municipio Mara, estado Zulia, Venezuela.
Abstract Irrigation is the most important activity for crop production in Mara, Zulia State. Growth and yield features of guava trees grown on field in this area were evaluated varying daily water levels: 110, 174, 228 and 273 L.per.tree.dey. Significant differences between treatments (P<0,05) were detected in LSW, AC and OC. LSW and yield were high and diseases incidence on fruits was low when 228 L day-1 per plant were applied without showing differences between treatments.
Abstract The excessive outcrop of the aquatic plant Lemna at Maracaibo's Lake, Venezuela has caused great interest and has motivated people to study the different environmental factors that might control its grow. The influence of pH is reported (2, 3, 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10) on the growth of Lemna sp. in cultures with different nitrogen sources (NH4Cl, NaNO3, urea and NH4NO3) at 1mM. Bioassays by triplicate in glass pots initiated with 20 colonies equivalent to 57 ±4 fronds of Lemna in 250 mL of lake's water filtered ate 4‰ and enriched with culture media ALGAL. Growth was determined in function of the number of viable fronds produced. All experiments were done on a photoperiod of 12:12h, with an irradiance of 86 µmol quanta m-2s-1, at 30 ±2ºC and a pH adjusted with NaOH or HCl 1N for 23 days. Lemna sp. kept its growth at a pH between 3.5-9. However, extremes pH (3.5<pH>9) induce a nocive effect. The optimum pH was in function of the nitrogen source with the following growth order: urea, pH 4> NH4NO3, pH 4> NaNO3, pH 7>ammonium, pH 5; with average values of 1668.5±28.99; 506±19.80; 333.0±65.05 and 182.5±44.55 fronds, respectively. Likewise, pH has an influence on the microalgal flora and associated fungicide. That is, at pH ³ 7 predominates the growth of microalga. Instead, between 3.5 and 6 is induced the growth of phytopathogen fungus for Lemna. It is shown that pH and the nitrogen source constitute growth modulator factors of Lemna Nitrogen's Balance in the soil-plant system with guinea-grass (Panicum maximum Jacq) in tropical dry forest http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0378-78182006000100008&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en A objeto de estudiar el balance del nitrógeno en el sistema suelo - planta con pasto guinea (Panicum maximum Jacq) se llevo a cabo un experimento en el occidente de Venezuela. The system of incomplete blocks in repeated and non repeated designs is discussed, under the assumption that in the agronomic field such designs offer comparative advantages in the estimation of the variance of the experimental error, with respect to the designs without blocking. With such aim the structure and efficiency of the Composed Central Orthogonal design (C.C.O) in both repeated and non repeated is analyzed plus the Composed Central Rotary design (C.C.R.) in both repeated and non repeated, C.C.O. in incomplete blocks repeated and not repeated and C.C.R. in incomplete block repeated and not repeated. For such designs, the analyses of the variance and the estimations of the coefficients of the model were discussed and a practical example with data corresponding to maize fertilization (Zea mays L.). Finally, the designs in incomplete blocks with those in complete blocks are compared, concluding that it is advisable and favorable the alternative of composed designs of Box in repeated incomplete blocks, under the conditions of the study Elaboration of an Instant Beverage Amaranth Seeds (Amaranthus cruentus) and Its potential use in the human diet http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0378-78182006000100010&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en Se elaboró una bebida instantánea a base de harina de semillas de amaranto (Amaranthus cruentus), harina de arroz y harina de maíz, suero de leche y leche en polvo; con un mínimo de 16% de proteínas y 350 Kcal.
