This article analyzes salary differences between the native White, non-Hispanic population, Afro-North Americans and Latin American and Caribbean immigrants in the United States. The method for decomposition of salary differences developed by Oaxaca (1973) is used to establish to what extent the difference is due to differences in human capital among the workers, and to what extent it is due to the differential treatment the market exercises over some workers. Results highlight great differences in human capital among the workers, but also, the unequal treatment of the market exercised principally toward some groups of Latin American workers.
The objective of this article is to propose a theoretical treatment for labour union representation in the public sector. Drawing on the work of important authors such as Pierre Bourdieu, Ernesto Laclau, Alessandro Pizzorno, Klaus Offe, etc, a theoretical trajectory is described from the most abstract concept of political representation to a specific kind of union representation displayed in the environment of the State. Methodology is based on a bibliographical review of the previously mentioned authors and reflections on field work experience. Conclusions indicate the need to approach labour union representation in the public sector as a special field that requires attention to its own particular aspects, which cannot and should not be omitted.
The objective of this documentary-type study is to examine some of the penal types found in the Venezuelan legal code related to Labor Law and Social Security, in terms of the active subject, the passive subject, legally protected right and the elements surrounding each one. To pursue this objective, penal types in Venezuelan legislation were examined comparatively with some penal types established in the Spanish Penal Code. Likewise, Venezuelan and Spanish doctrines regarding the theme were analyzed, concluding that penal types related to Labor Law and Social Security in Venezuela are not limited only to those indicated in the Organic Law of Prevention, Conditions and Work Environment, and even when the national legislator has intended to decrease the number of work accidents and occupational illnesses by creating new penal types or making the sanctions for those that exist more severe, such mechanisms have not produced the desired effect. Grupo Bolonia - Castilla La Mancha - Turín XVII Encuentro Internacional 2008: San Cristóbal-Venezuela Segundo Tema.
