The objective of this study was to evaluate the tendency of changes produced by the trampling in production systems from pigs to fi eld (PF) on the properties of a Mollisol ground of Venezuela. The sampling was based with pigson a factorial design 2x3, a factor of two levels: pastures (PWP) and pig paddocks without (PPW) and soil depth atf three levels (0-5, 5-10 y 10-20 cm). In each plot four points were selected at random according to previous variability analysis. At each point was determined pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and organic carbon (OC) content of the soil, and assessing structural condition, structural stability to wet sieving, drop impact, and water movement. The results showed significant differences between treatment for the variables bulk density (BD), pores with radio <15 μm, mechanical resistance to the penetration (MRP) and OC, while for pH and EC only significant differencesby effect of the presence or absence of pigs. This suggest that pigs trampling have an modifier effect on soil properties evaluated, in this case further evidence of negative changes such as, increase of BD and pores with radio <15 μm and the diminution of the total porosity and infiltration rate Phenotypic stability in irrigated rice in Venezuela using the models AMMI and LIN-BINNS http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0002-192X2010000200002&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la presencia de interacción genotipo ambiente (GxA), su magnitud en el rendimiento en granos (t.ha-1), evaluar la adaptabilidad y estabilidad (A y E) fenotípica de genotipos de arroz, Oryza sativa L., utilizando los modelos Lin-Binns y AMMI (Additive main effects and mutiplicative interactions); se evaluaron 15 genotipos (cuatro testigos) en cinco ambientes (locales) en las principales zonas productoras de arroz en Venezuela, durante el ciclo de riego 2006-2007.
To determine the presence of interaction genotype environment (GxE) and its magnitude in grains yield (t.ha-1) and to evaluate the adaptability and stability (A y S) phenotypic of rice cultivars Oryza sativa L. using the models Lin-Binns and AMMI (Additive main effects and mutiplicative interac tions) 15 cultivars were evaluated in fi ve local environments in the main areas rice producer in Venezuela during 2006-2007 dry season. GxE interaction for yield was analyzed using the models Lin and Binns and additive main effects and multiplicative interactions (AMMI). The effects of environments, genotypes and GXE interaction explained 40.58% (P<0.01), 8.09% (P<0.01) and 15.04% (P<0.05) of the total sum of squares, respectively. According with the AMMI model the genotypes PN01B034, PN001B037 and L-1 had absolute values near to zero of the CP1 indicating low interaction GxE, in consequence they were considered stable over environments. In the other hand, Lin and Binns model indicated that FD03B01 was the most adapted genotype. The commercial varieties with higher yields were FEDEARROZ 50 and CIMARRÓN, additionally, VENEZUELA 21 and CIMARRÓN were stables. In relation to environments, Sabanetica and Araure (Portuguesa State) contributes to the interaction GxE; for that reason both are considered the most unstable. In the other hand, Torunos (Barinas State) presented major stability. The model AMMI allowed a detailed analysis of the interaction GxE, facilitating the selection of the most productive genotypes and with better stability; also, it was possible to do an easier graphic interpretation of the statistical analysis Productive zoning cañera in Huasteca Potosina, Mexico http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0002-192X2010000200003&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt Los sistemas de información geográfica (SIG) y percepción remota (PR) son herramientas de utilidad en el manejo y modernización de la zonificación agroecológica de la producción de caña de azúcar, Saccharum officinarum.
The geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) are the most important tools to implement high effi cient management of modernization and agro-ecological zoning of sugarcane, Saccharum offi cinarum, production. The objective of this research was to evaluate the spatial distribution and characterize the level of productivity of sugarcane crop in Huasteca Potosina area in San Luis de Potosí, Mexico, through remote sensing techniques. Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), weather and soil databases and the management systems under which the crop is grown were used to evaluate inherent productivity. ILWIS 3.3 and ESRI ArcGis 9.2. software were used for cartographic synthesis. NDVI was successfully used for sugarcane condition assessment: canopy cover, vigour and area identifi cation. The results indicate that the sugarcane zone is precisely located for good crop yields, however were detect marginal yields. Each zone has a similar combination of constraints and potentials for land use and serves as a focus for the targeting of recommendations designed to improve the existing sugarcane land use situation. The sugarcane areas at Huasteca Potosina requires a systematic effort towards the planning of land use activities in the most appropriate way, apart from several other institutional and policy programmed initiatives to improvement the profi tably and productivity Effect of Fusarium Sp. in the germination, fenology and survival of Leucaena leucocephala (lam.) de wit seedling http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0002-192X2010000200004&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt La semilla de Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit es infectada por diversos hongos, destacando Fusarium sp. En el presente trabajo se evaluó el efecto de este hongo sobre la germinación, fenología y supervivencia en plántulas emergidas de semillas de L. leucocephala colonizadas .
Seeds of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) of Wit is infested by diverse fungi, among which Fusarium sp. In this study it was evaluated the effect of this fungus on germination, fenology and seedling survival emerged from seeds of L. leucocephala colonized. The material was collected and taken to the laboratory where proceeded to determine the fungus, proving Fusarium sp. Seed samples were distributed in two treatments: healthy seeds (T1) and colonized seeds (T2), planted in germination trays under a completely randomized design with fi ve replications. Germination was evaluated daily and weekly the number of leaves (NL), number of nodes (NN), primary branches (PR), seedling height (SH) and absolute rate of growth (ARG). We also evaluated the survival of seedlings emerged. Highly signifi cant differences were observed for germination between treatments, with greater healthy percentage of seeds germinated (80%) in relation to the colonized by the fungus (46.6%). Phenology differences were found between T1 and T2 in NN (3.0 and 2.6), RP (2.7 and 2.4) and SH (11.10 and 10.66), respectively. The ARG for RP and NN presented a slow growing during the evaluation period. It was also noted seedling mortality in T2 associated with the symptoms of the pathogen. We conclude that Fusarium sp. has a negative effect by reducing more than 50% germination of seeds of sL. leucocephala colonized and slow growth seedlings emerged Accumulation of S, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn and Mn and their relatioship with dry matter production in cowpea grown under minimum and conventional tillage in a mollisol soil of Venezuela http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0002-192X2010000200005&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt En Venezuela se requiere información sobre la acumulación de nutrimentos por el frijol, Vigna unguiculata L. Walp y su relación con la producción de materia seca (MS) para mejorar la efi ciencia de uso de los fertilizantes y la cantidad de nutrimentos a aplicar.
In Venezuela there is a need for information regarding nutrient accumulation by cowpea, Vigna unguiculta L. Walp and their relationship with dry matter production (DM), to improve the effi ciency of use of fertilizer, and the amount of nutrient to apply. In this study the absortion of S, Zn, Ca, Mg, Fe and Mn by cowpea (Tuy variety), sowed under minimum (MT) and conventional tillage (CT), was evaluated in a Molisol soil of the Aragua State. The concentration of the nutrients evaluated were similar in MT and CT, with the exception of S, which was higher in CT. The pattern of the nutrient accumulation was similar in NT and CT, althought the amount of nutrients taken up was higher in CT. Between 11-32% of the S, Zn, Mg and Fe, and between 55-59% of Ca and Mn were accumulated during the fi rst 43 days after germination (DAG), while between 68-89% of the fi rst, and 45-61% of the latter were accumulated between the 43-58 DAG. Probably in CT the higher accumulation of nutrients was associated to a lower soil bulk density in the soil layers between 0-10 cm, which improve the development of the root system. In MT there was a cuadratic relationship between DM and the amount of nutrient accumulated, which suggest that some other soil factor could affect the nutrient absorption, while in CT there was a lineal relationship, which suggest that the crop production could be increased by improvement of the fertilizer management Phenology of local cultivars of peas and common bean in the Rafael Urdaneta municipality, Táchira state, Venezuela base on degree days http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0002-192X2010000200006&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt El objetivo de este estudio fue recolectar cultivares locales de leguminosas de grano comestible de frijol, Phaseolus vulgaris L. y arveja Pisum sativum L., para su caracterización morfológica y determinar su ciclo fenológico en función de los grados días (ºC.d) acumulados.
The culture of anthers and petals in vitro has been used in this research in order to get a protocol to induce callus formation and somatic embryogenesis in seven venezuelan cacao, Theobroma cacao L., cultivars: OCUMARE-61, OCUMARE-67, CHORONÍ-42, GUASARE-133, CHUAO-2, SANTA CRUZ DE LA VEGA-6 and SANTA CRUZ-10, using DKW media and three different carbon sources: glucose, fructose and sucrose. The randomized desing in a factorial arrangement 3x7 was used. Floral buds of 1.5 to 2 mm of length with microspores in tetrad stage were selected and treated at 12 °C for 48h. To callus and proembriogenic masses development, coconut water and aminoacids respectively was added in culture medium. The results of percentage of expanded explants, necrosis, callus induction and ploidy level were analyzed through Kruskal and Wallis test.
The present study evaluated some parameters associated with the aroma and fl avor compounds in cocoa, Theobroma cacao L., Merideño Creole (MC) grown under soil and climatic conditions. A lot set in the Experimental Station of the San Juan de Lagunillas (INIA-Mérida), Venezuela at an altitude of 1,050 m.a.s.l. and average annual tempe rature of 26 ºC and another in the town of Zea, Zea municipality of Mérida and 850 m.a.s.l. 22 ºC average tempe rature. Tests were conducted on samples of fresh cotyledons during the fermentation process. Both cases evaluated the percentage of fi ber, moisture, fat and its melting point, content of volatile acidity, total sugars, polyphenols, total purines, theobro mine, caffeine and pyrazine. The results show that the MC cacao in San Juan of Lagunillas, a low acidity at the start of drying compared to MC in Zea as well as a less volatile acidity at the end of fermentation. It was also noted slight differences in fat content, total sugars, pyrazine and content of caffeine and theobromine, indicating that soil and climatic conditions have led to changes in the chemical behavior of the precursors of aroma and fl avor. All chemical parameters were corrected according to the moisture of the sample during the fermentation process and were associated with a sample of fermented cocoa of Ghana
