Fungi of the genus Trichoderma deserve maximum attention as biocontrol agents because they demonstrated their high antagonistic power plant pathogens.
In order to study the potential of yam (Dioscorea alata L.), taro (Xanthosoma sagittifolium L. Schott) and mapuey (Dioscorea trifida L.) for agro-industrial use, they were dry by convection at 60 and and 80 °C to obtain flours. The methods of the Association of Official Analytial Chemist were used to evaluate some physical, chemical, sensorial and functional characteristics. The results shown that the average time of drying were 180 and 120 minute for 60 and 80 °C, respectively, which yield with low moisture content (from 2.32 to 7.44 g/100 g) and water activity (aw<0,6): these flours showed a high stability. For yam, taro and mapuey dehydrated at 60 °C the starch content range from 70.5 to 79.96 g/100 g, the protein from 3.84 to 6.77g/100 g and the dietary fiber from 4.84 a 7.58 g/100 g, so that including these flours into mixed or composed flours would rise its nutritional value. The yield performance of the drying process ranged from 27.26 a 30.44% for both temperature and flours evaluated, which is acceptable for agroindustrial purpose. Also, it was found that mapuey, followed by taro and yam dehydrated 80 °C, showed a high water absorption capacity, and solubity and swelling power, which are ideal characteristics to produce gels with high thickener capacity and low tendency to retrogradation, while that dry at 60 °C were suitable for making products of high consistency.
The bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L., is widely cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical regions where it is considered a source of proteins, carbohydrates, fibers and minerals. Plants were inoculated to nine races of Ps. pv p. and evaluated in a greenhouse. We studied the response to infection of varieties on leaves and pods. It showed three kinds of response to bacteria: cultivars susceptible to all the races, cultivars resistant only to races 3 and 4, and cultivars additionally resistant to races 1, 5, 7 and 9. The results of this study indicated that different bean genotypes have different resistance levels to Ps. pv p., and can be used in the pyramiding of genes with appropriate methods to provide durable resistance.
The solar radiation is the input parameter for numerous applications, however, hardly available to the user, this arises the need to use empirical methods to estimate it which use easy achievement variables available in all meteorological stations. Using daily data from the meteorological station of Ceniap Maracay serial 2604, belonging to the agrometeorological network of INIA in Maracay, Venezuela, a study was conducted to compare 5 estimation methods: Angstrom-Prescott (1940), Glover and McCulloch (1958), Bristow and Campbell (1984), Hargreaves et al. (1985) and De Jong and Stewart (1993); in order to select which of these it considers better estimator of solar radiation for the study area. Comparisons have been implemented through the statistical test chi square, finding that, statistically, all methods are consistent with the values of radiation measured for this station. However, the method presented by the minor overestimation, was found to be De Jong and Stewart.
The data quality control as an initial phase in any study that involves calculation, it is a vital step that ensures the accuracy of the results and interpretations of them. The most notable problem with the quality control of climate data is the presence of outliers due that, removing them or keep them can affect the analysis of events leading to overestimates or underestimates. In the present work was implemented a methodology for quality control of temperature data through the integration of various analysis that include the identification of outliers with robust statistical measures in 15 climatic stations of INIA. It was found that the majority of the comments fell dawn within the expected thresholds. In the analysis of the temporal series, some cases were detected with Tmax>50 and Tmax °C<Tmin (OTD< 0 °C), which were eliminated. In the station CENIAP-Maracay it was found very high values of FD10 (10 days in 1959 with Tmin< 10 °C) and SU35 (183 days in 1959 with Tmax>35 °C). It was demonstrated that through the construction of intervals with mean and deviation bi-weighted, it is possible to detect series with questionable data, as the temperature serie may-november/1959 of CENIAP-Maracay where Tmax> than the upper limit and Tmin<than the lower limit. The questioned values were reported in the refined data base.
Reproductive aspects and rodent community damages were evaluated on a direct sowing rice plot cultivated in the Guarico river in the irrigation system system during dry season 2009-2010. One hundred paited traps suplemented with Cucurbita maxima were used and placed at 10 m for two consecutive nights. Captured specimens were weighed, identifying the species and sex. The number of embryos in pregnant females and the position of testes in males were recorded. Damage assessment was determined on a 1.4 ha plot, 10 samples were selected using a square timber 0.5 x 0.5 m, and the number of healthy and damaged plants were counted. One hundred and sixty two specimens were captured: Zygodontomys brevicauda (n=102), Sigmodon alstoni (n=27), Oligoryzomys sp. (n=25) and Holochilus sciureus (n=8). Catches results were: 105 males and 57 females, with a sex rratio 1.8 ♂: ♀ 1, which is not different from 1: 1 (P = 0.05). Thirty four percent females (n=17) was pregnant and 84.7% males (n=89) showed scrotal testes. The highest capture rate (18%) was observed 40 days after sowing (DAS). The level of damage varied by crop stage (P = 0.0004) was greater at 76 DDS, when populations of H. sciureus were found. Further studies are required to determine the effect of direct sowing system on rodent community and its economic impact. Order Zingiberales: the musaceaes and its relationship to related plants http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0002-192X2012000100014&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt Las musáceas incluyen las especies alimenticias que comúnmente denominamos plátanos y bananos, catalogadas en muchas ocasiones como hierbas gigantes.
Musaceae include food species commonly called plantains and bananas which are often classified as giant herbs. There is controversy regarding its taxonomic classification due to the existence of various opposing views among taxonomists, including: 1) the fact that some families within the order Zingiberales may be closely related leading to a decrease in the number of those families, 2) there is evidence of the existence of three genuses within the Musaceae family (Musa, Ensete and Musella), usually Musella is considered within the genus Ensete and 3) in the presence of high variation among species that comprise the genus Musa, sections were created comprising species with many similarities, leaving out species such as Musa beccarii, Musa nonticola and Musa suratii, although have not yet been placed in any section.
