Several authors have shown the implications of smoking in the alteration of respiratory capacity and oxidation / antioxidation system and the importance of screening them for help in preventing various diseases. In the present investigation was to assess respiratory capacity and vitamin C (VC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels of smokers and non smokers. Partici - pated 50 bioanalysis students both sexes, classified by the World Health Organization in daily smokers (DF), occasional smokers (OF) and non-smokers (NF). The evaluated parameters were: forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC), levels of VC and malonilaldehyde. Results presented as X ± SD and percentages and statistically analyzed by ANOVA, were 69,2% and 84,6% of students (DF, OF) had normal values of FVC and FEV, respectively, without differences significant height. VC levels (mg/dl) Were 1.19 ± 0.30 (NF) with 1.12 ± 0.09 (OF) without significant differences between them and the MDA (ìm/l) showed a statistically significant increase (p<0.05) their values in OF (1.56 ± 0.5) with res pect to NF (0.99 ± 0.60). We conclude that the values of MDA showed a significant increase in OF, which correspond to manifestations of oxidative stress. However, vitamin C levels, though were lower in FO group, showed no significant differences as well as spirometry Socioeconomic questionnaire applied to family groups of the Capital District for research related to public health http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0798-04772010000100003&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt La evaluación de aspectos socioeconómicos en comunidades, se hace mediante el método Graffar-Méndez Castella no (1994), éste incluye cuatro variables y no refleja la realidad de la Condición Social de las familias.
The evaluation of aspects socioeconomic in communities, one becomes by means of the Graffar-Méndez Castellano me thod (1994), this one includes four variables and it does not reflect reality of the Social Condition of the families.
This study has determined the content of Vitamin C in honey bee in the Andean Venezuelan region. The Vitamin C be - longs together with vitamin B to the group of water-soluble. Assists in the development of bones, cartilage, the absorption of iron, the production of collagen (acting as a cofactor in the hydroxylation of amino acids lysine and proline). The chemical antioxidant property is the most important of vitamin C. This helps prevent the oxidation of vitamins A and E, and some B vitamins such as riboflavin, thiamin, folic acid and pantothenic acid. Develops anti-infectious actions and acts as a detoxifying because it can reduce the toxicity of heavy metals like lead, mercury and arsenic. Vitamin C is not synthesized by man, for this reason should be eaten in the diet, foods rich in Vitamin C are green vegetables, citrus fruits and potatoes, among others. Vitamin C is present in honey in low concentrations, the HPLC technique is best suited to their quantification, but is a costly and difficult to access. It proposes a simpler method based on oxide-reduction volumetric, as the Vitamin C is oxidized to dehidroascorbic acid, a reaction with 2.6-dichlorophenolindophenol which is reduced by a redox reaction to a colourless solution. The values found, reported in mg vit C/100 g honey, ranging between 12.74 and 40.13, with an average of 20,982 ± 2.8896 Effect of consumption of diets with oats and black beans on the lipid profile of an experimental model in rat http://ve.scielo.org/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0798-04772010000100005&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt El consumo de alimentos ricos en fibra dietética (FD) soluble e insoluble, afecta favorablemente el perfil de lípidos séricos al reducir las concentraciones de colesterol total, colesterol- LDL y triglicéridos (TG).
The consumption of foods rich in soluble and insoluble dietary fiber (DF) favorably affects the serum lipid profile by lowering total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides (TG). The objective of this work was to compare the effect of consumption of diets with oats (Avena sativa) and black beans (Pha seo lus vulgaris) on the lipid profile of rats. Fifteen male rats, Spra gue Dawley strain were fed ad libitum for 18 days, with three different diets: a control, one containing black beans (15% w / w) and another with oats (15% w / w). The serum total cholesterol concentration decreased 50.56% in the group fed with oats and 40.52% in the group fed with beans. Also a de crease of LDL-cholesterol 49.21% in the group fed with oats and 42.93% in the group fed with beans was observed. There was 52.47% reduction of HDLcho lesterol in the group fed with oats and 31.29% for the group fed with beans, this is not a be neficial reduction. The serum TG concentration was significantly lower, 50.20% for the group fed with oats and 51.8% for the group fed with beans. The decrease of these lipids due to diet containing oats or beans, was significantly different from control but not between them. Consideration of these results for human health is very important, particularly in reducing the prevalence of cardiovascular disease.
Nuez de Barinas (Caryodendron orinocense K.) flour has been reported to have a content of proteins in the range of 15-18% that allows considering it as a source of proteins. However, there is no evidence on the composition of these proteins. The objective of this study was the extraction and separation of the different fractions of proteins based on their solubility in different solvents (water, 5% sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide 0.02N, and 70% ethanol), and the protein composition assessment of the nuez de Barinas flour from dried, milled, and defatted nuts; by analysis of the range of mo lecular weight by SDS-PAGE. Molecular weights of proteins from soybean (Glycine max) flour, were used for comparison. In vitro protein digestibility was determined by enzymatic hydrolysis. Results presented soy proteins in the range of 20.000-97.000 daltons while the nuez de Barinas flour proteins were in the range of 6.500-45.000 daltons. Low molecular weight proteins should suggest a much easier digestibility of these proteins, which is related to the digestibility index of 75% found. Protein composition was found to be 50,72% albumins, 15,56% globulins, 23,10% prolamins, and 2,52% glutelins which represent 92,15% of total proteins present. These fractions showed a percent purity of 81.57, 94.01, 70.86 and 92.53, respectively.
