PATRUNO, Daniela Helena; MANZO, Zulaimy  y  GONZALEZ BLANCO, Mireya. Depresión en la perimenopausia y en la posmenopausia. Rev Obstet Ginecol Venez [online]. 2016, vol.76, suppl.1, pp.176-181. ISSN 0048-7732.

Objective: To evaluate depression in perimenopause and postmenopause women. Methods: 212 perimenopausal or postmenopausal women, who came to the Gynecology Service, were recruited. Interviews were conducted in order to collect socio-demographic-biological factors, and depressive symptoms. For these purposes, three sources were used: an identification form, the Graffar-Méndez Castellano scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory. The investigators collected the data between August and September 2012. Results: Perimenopausal women got a depression frequency of 43.8%. Among postmenopausal women, the depression frequency was 27.3 % (P=0.047). Among perimenopausal patients, there were 65.6% with moderate depression. Depression risk factors in this group were previous negative event (P=0.025), educational level (P=0.046), and vasomotor symptoms (P=0.000). In postmenopausal group, there were 47.4% with moderate depression, 42.1% rarely depressed, 7.9% with severe depression and 2.6% with extreme depression. In this group, depression risk factors were marital status (P=0.001), previous negative event (P=0.000), and sexual activity (P=0.001). Conclusions: Depression frequency is higher in perimenopausal patients than in posmenopausal women. Majority of perimenopausal depressive patients have moderate depression. Previous negative event is a risk factor in both groups.
