MONTANO-MATA, N. J. y NUNEZ, J.C.. Evaluation of the effect of the transplant age on yield in three selections of sweet pepper Capsicum chinense Jacq in Jusepin, Monagas State. Rev. Fac. Agron. [online]. 2003, vol.20, n.2, pp.144-155. ISSN 0378-7818.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the transplant age at 50, 45, 40 and 35 days, on the yield of fruit in the UDO A-16R, UDO A-8R and UDO A-7R selections of sweet pepper, in a trial established at the experimental station for vegetable production in the Universidad de Oriente, Jusepin, Monagas State, using a random block factorial arrangement experimental design with three replications. The results showed that the number fruit per plant and number fruits per kilo had a direct effect on the yield of the evaluated selection. The highest yields of fruits was produced by the seedlings of the UDO A-16R selection (17.874 Kg/ha) that remained 45 days in the nursery. UDO A-7R produced an average yield of 15.030 Kg/ha with seedling of 45 or 40 days of age. Selection UDO A-8R obtained best yield (16.066 Kg/ha) when the seedling remained 50 days in the nursery. The selections produced the smallest yields when the seedling remained 35 days in the nursery with average of 10.654 Kg/ha. The plant height at the moment of the first and last harvest, and length and width of fruit were not affected by the transplant age. A greater transplant age did positively affect the number of leaves (9,00) and the height of the seedling (21,4 cm).
