APONTE, Y y JAUREGUI, D. Some aspects of the floral biology of Passiflora cincinnata Mast. Rev. Fac. Agron. [online]. 2004, vol.21, n.3, pp.211-220. ISSN 0378-7818.
The objective of this research was to contribute giving information on the floral biology of Passiflora cincinnata. For that, the assent L057 of the Germoplasm Bank of Passifloraceae of the INIA (Maracay, Aragua) was used. A visual pursuit was made to know the floral events. The results revealed that the flowers open up among 7:30 - 8:30 am and close at 24 hours. The dehiscence of the anthers happens before the anthesis takes place. In this specie, three types of flowers were observed: with curved styles, partially curved and upright; also, flowers with their atrophied gynoecium and with their overlapped stigmas by some petal. The time between the opening of the flower and the bend of the styles until an angle of 90° was 55 -70 minutes. It was observed the carpenter bees visit and honey bees in the flowers, after having happened the anthesis. The specie presents low self-compatibility percentage and the crossed pollination is the most efficient system in reproduction. The pollen grains are spherical with a reticulate exine and release an exudates of yellow color.
