The objective of this research is to carry out a theoretical reflection on the ethical dimension of sustainable development in agriculture. On the epistemological level, this study was based on the reality of Venezuelan agriculture and adopted the multi-dimensional character of sustainable development. Also, the ethical implications in order to achieve sustainability in agriculture were debated, and the social commitment of science adopted. This theoretical reflection permitted a focus on the necessity of incorporating ethics in the debate of sustainable development of agriculture. Ethics should constitute a starting point from which to propose development that lasts over time, given its implications in the dimensions of sustainability (social, political, economic and environmental) in order to construct an economic activity that is just from the social point of view, feasible in and economic sense, and healthy in terms of the conservation of the environment.
