Abstract

PARRA, Javier; PENA, Rosa Mercedes; CARRILLO, Patricia  and  MORENO, Gendrik. Class-Category: an Operation-Alization of the Marxist Concept of Social Class. Revista de Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.2, pp.319-331. ISSN 1315-9518.

The article summarizes part of the discussion that occurred within the social sciences in relation to the study of classes or social strata. In a similar manner it takes up the definition of class-category as a way of making operational the Marxist concept of social class, as a tool for approaching the study of the division of society in classes. In this sense, the category of social class breaks down into four indicators: a) Property/possession of the labor means, b) Function of capital or the function of work, c) types of work (manual or intellectual), and d) control/non control of the productive process.

Keywords : Social classes; social stratification; class category; Marxism.
