Cyclic voltammetry and pulse potential techniques were used for the synthesis and assessment of electrocatalysts (Ru/Mo, Pd/Mo and Ru/Pd/Mo, on glassy carbon (GC)), assisted by scanning electron microscopy for the characterization of the electrode surface and the further consideration of ethanol oxidation. It was observed that the catalytic activity of the Ru/Mo binary electrode, towards the oxidation of ethanol, was better than that observed in the catalysts Pd/Mo and Mo/GC; showing important changes in the current densities of ethanol oxidation waves as the concentration of ruthenium increased on the surface of the electrode. It was found that the presence of molybdenum on the electrode was required to have catalytic activity toward the oxidation of ethanol in the synthesized Ru/Mo and Pd/Ru/Mo electrodes and conditions for its permanence were defined. The incorporation of palladium in the trimetallic increases the EtOH oxidation voltammetric response and best results for EtOH oxidation were obtained on these two electrodes (Ru/Mo/GC and Pd/Ru/Mo/GC) with the additional control of parameters such as rate and deposition time, concentration of the precursor salts and the potential window.
