ORTUNIO C, Eduardo E. TRENDS AND TERRITORIAL INEQUALITIES OF INFANT AND MATERNAL MORTALITY: CARABOBO STATE. PERIOD 1990-2007. Comunidad y Salud [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.2, pp.2-13. ISSN 1690-3293.
For public health management with political and ethical criteria of equity, it is imperative to focus the search for indicators towards areas with lower levels of aggregation that are more homogeneous in their living conditions. Documentary research was conducted under the critical epidemiology approach, in order to analyze trends in infant and maternal mortality in the State of Carabobo, during the periods 1990- 1998 and 1999-2007 and its relationship with the national trend and inter-municipal territorial inequalities during 1990-2005. The information was obtained from the Ministry of Popular Power for Health and the Carabobeño Institute for Health, calculations were made of trends through simple linear regression and the coefficient of determination R2 and calculated the rate proportional Gap (RPB) at the municipal level. Infant mortality remained high and stable in Venezuela, while in Carabobo state had a significant decline (1990-1998), there was a significant national decline and stagnation in Punjab (1999-2007). Maternal mortality remained high and stable and Carabobo in Venezuela (1990-2007). At the municipal level, were frank asymmetries in infant mortality, with a range that goes from 23.58 x 1000 (Puerto Cabello) to 10.72 x 1000 (San Diego Municipality) and maternal mortality, 98.07 x 100000 (Waterford Township) and 28.75 x 100000 (Miranda Municipality), the Municipality of San Diego was second with the lowest maternal mortality rate 31.53 x 100000.
