Tratamiento endoscópico de primera línea ha sido la colocación de múltiples stents plásticos requiriendo múltiples colangiopancreatografía retrógrada endoscópica (CPRE) y con alta tasa de recurrencia a largo plazo. Stent metálicos cubiertos autoexpandibles (SMCA) han sido propuestos como una alternativa al stent plástico para el tratamiento de las EBB.  Objetivo: Describir la experiencia del uso de SMCA de rescate en EBB posterior a fracaso de tratamiento endoscópico previo.  Pacientes y métodos: Estudio retrospectivo (febrero 2003-octubre 2016). 72 pacientes con EBB/33 pacientes EBB postquirúrgicas. Tasa de resolución de la estenosis y recurrencia fueron evaluadas.  Resultados: De 72 pacientes con EBB se incluyeron 33 pacientes con EBB postquirúrgicas que habían sido tratadas endoscópicamente y recurrieron. A los 33 pac. se les realizó tratamiento de rescate con SMCA durante un año. De estos, 8 pac (24.35%) fueron dilatados previo a la colocación del SMCA. Todas las CPRE y colocación SMCA fueron exitosos sin complicaciones inmediatas. Colangitis recurrente se presentó en 8 pac (25%) y en 3 pac (9.1%) el SMCA migró, siendo recolocado endoscópicamente. Remoción del SMCA fue posible 100% casos a los 12 meses. Media de seguimiento fue de 12-156 meses. Tasa de éxito resolución EBB 97% (32/33pac) con una recurrencia 3% a los 12 meses.  Conclusiones: El uso de SMCA de rescate en EBB post tratamientos endoscópicos fallidos pareciese ser una alternativa eficaz y segura con baja tasa de recurrencia.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Benign biliary stricture (BBS) results from a different group of diseases of a variable nature. First-line endoscopic treatment has been the placement of multiple plastic stents requiring multiple endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with a high long-term recurrence rate. Covered self-expanding metallic stents (CSMS) have been proposed as an alternative to plastic stents for the treatment of BBS.  Objective: To describe the experience of using salvage CSMS in BBS after failure of previous endoscopic treatment.  Patients and methods: Retrospective study (February 2003-October 2016). 72 EBB patients / 33 postsurgical BBS patients. Stricture resolution rate and recurrence were evaluated.  Results: Of 72 patients with BBS, 33 patients with postsurgical BBS who had been treated endoscopically and recurred were included. All 33 patients underwent salvage treatment with CSMS for one year. Of these, 8 patients (24.35%) were dilated prior to the placement of the CSMS. All ERCP and CSMS placement were successful with no immediate complications. Recurrent colangitis occurred in 8 patients (25%) and in 3 patients (9.1%) the CSMS migrated, being repositioned endoscopically. Removal of the CSMS was possible in 100% cases at 12 months. Follow-up of 12-156 months. BBS resolution success rate was 97% (32 /33pac) with a 3% recurrence at 12 months.  Conclusions: The use of rescue CSMS in BBS after failed endoscopic treatments appears to be an effective and safe alternative with a low recurrence rate.]]></p></abstract>
