El manejo de estos pacientes sigue siendo controvertido, siendo la histerectomía la forma más frecuentemente usada para pacientes premenopáusicas y perimenopáusicas. Los síntomas generalmente incluyen sangramiento uterino anormal, dolor pélvico y dismenorrea. El objetivo de este estudio narrativo fue revisar los factores de riesgo, los diferentes métodos de diagnóstico y tratamientos para la adenomiosis. Con ese objeto fue revisado la bibliografía latinoamericana e internacional usando los sitios electrónicos como Pub-Med, Google Scholar, Springer, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Scielo, Imbiomed-L, Redalyc y Latindex entre otros. Se revisaron los años comprendidos entre 1970 y enero 2024. Se analizaron los factores de riesgo, los métodos de diagnóstico y los diferentes tipos de tratamiento médico y quirúrgico, sin embargo, el manejo de estas pacientes sigue siendo controvertido.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY Adenomyosis is a benign uterine pathology that affects women of different ages but is most frequently diagnosed in the 40s and 50s. The management of these patients remains controversial, with hysterectomy being the most frequently used method for premenopausal and perimenopausal patients. Symptoms usually include abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, and dysmenorrhea. The objective of this narrative study was to review the risk factors, the different diagnostic methods, and the treatments for adenomyosis. For this purpose, the Latin American and international bibliography was reviewed using electronic sites such as Pub-Med, Google Scholar, Springer, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Scielo, Imbiomed-L, Redalyc, and Latindex among others. The years between 1970 and January 2024 were reviewed. Risk factors, diagnostic methods, and different types of medical and surgical treatment were analyzed; however, the management of these patients remains controversial.]]></p></abstract>
