Se utilizaron 48 conejos de mestizaje Nueva Zelanda x California (736,91±75,42 g de peso vivo), distribuidos en cuatro tratamientos y 12 repeticiones. Los tratamientos fueron: T1= Alimento concentrado comercial en forma de harina (CFH); T2= CFH + 10% de harina de follaje de morera (FM) + 8% de melaza; T3= CFH + 20% FM + 8% de melaza; T4= CFH + 30% FM + 8% de melaza. Se midió durante 12 días el consumo de las dietas y el número de intentos de consumo cada diez minutos por una hora después del suministro. Se aplicó análisis de varianza de una vía y los promedios se compararon mediante la prueba de Tukey. El consumo de las dietas no presentó diferencias (P>0,05) entre tratamientos (730 ± 101; 666 ± 95; 623 ± 152; 605 ± 130 g/conejo para T1, T2, T3 y T4, respectivamente). El número de intentos de consumo fue mayor (P<0,05) cuando no se incluyó morera (67 ± 15; 34 ± 11; 32 ± 11 y 26 ± 12 para T1, T2, T3 y T4, respectivamente). Sin embargo, no hubo asociación (P>0,05) entre ambas variables. Se concluye que la inclusión de morera en los niveles estudiados no afectó el consumo de la dieta. Se recomienda realizar pruebas de utilización digestiva y de respuesta animal con dietas que contengan morera.]]></p></abstract>

Forty eight new Zealand x California rabbits (736.97±75.42 g of live weight) were distributed in four treatments and 12 repetitions. The treatments were: T1= feed commercial in form of flour (FCF); T2= FCF + 10% of mulberry foliage (MF) + 8% of molasses; T3= FCF + 20% MF + 8% of molasses; T4= FCF + 30% MF + 8% of molasses. The consumption of the diets was measured during 12 days and the number of consumption intents every ten minutes for one hour after the supply. Analysis of variance for complete randomly design was applied and the averages were compared using Tukey test. For the diets consumption there were not differences (P>0.05) among treatments (730 ± 101; 666 ± 95; 623 ± 152; 605 ± 130 g/rabbit for T1, T2, T3 and T4, respectively). The number of consumption intents was higher (P<0.05) when mulberry was not included (67 ± 15; 34 ± 11; 32 ± 11 and 26 ± 12 for T1, T2, T3 and T4, respectively). <body><![CDATA[<P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Key words:</b> rabbits feeding, Morus alba, acceptability</font></P>     <p ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Recibido y aceptado</b> dentro del contexto del XII Congreso de Producción e Industria Animal 2004.</font></p>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>INTRODUCCI&Oacute;N</b></font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">La utilizaci&oacute;n de pastos y forrajes de buena calidad, adaptados al medio tropical y de f&aacute;cil adquisici&oacute;n, es necesaria para la alimentaci&oacute;n eficiente de conejos en Venezuela. Por tal motivo, conviene estudiar nuevas fuentes de alimentaci&oacute;n, con la intenci&oacute;n de usar materias primas no convencionales disponibles.</font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">El follaje de numerosas especies de &aacute;rboles y arbustos  tropicales puede mejorar la calidad de las dietas tradicionalmente usadas en animales. El contenido de prote&iacute;na cruda de estos follajes generalmente es superior al  de diversos pastos (CATIE, 1985). Entre las especies arbustivas de inter&eacute;s para alimentaci&oacute;n de conejos, se encuentra la morera, originaria de Asia y difundida en casi todo el mundo. Considerada alimento tradicional para el gusano de seda, ha sido seleccionada por diversos investigadores para la alimentaci&oacute;n de monog&aacute;stricos y rumiantes por el alto valor nutritivo de sus hojas (S&aacute;nchez, 1999).</font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">El follaje de morera contiene entre 15 y 28%  de prote&iacute;na cruda, depende de la variedad, edad y condiciones de crecimiento, y presenta m&aacute;s de 46% de amino&aacute;cidos esenciales (Machii, 1989). Las fracciones fibrosas son bajas comparadas con otros follajes,  Shayo (1997) report&oacute; contenidos de lignina detergente &aacute;cido de 8,1 y 7,1% para las hojas y corteza. Adem&aacute;s,  tiene alto contenido de minerales (hasta 17% de cenizas), con valores elevados de calcio y f&oacute;sforo  (S&aacute;nchez, 1999).</font>   </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Para evaluar un recurso forrajero de manera integral es necesario seguir una secuencia l&oacute;gica, seg&uacute;n se desglosa a continuaci&oacute;n:  a) conocer las caracter&iacute;sticas del cultivo y disponibilidad, aspectos agron&oacute;micos y procesamiento post-cosecha, b) aceptabilidad o preferencia por los animales,  c) pruebas de digestibilidad y de respuesta animal  (Gonz&aacute;lez et al.,  2000).</font> </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Para incluir en la dieta del animal cualquier forraje es necesario determinar el nivel de aceptaci&oacute;n. Pruebas de cafeter&iacute;a, que consisten en suministrar por periodos cortos de tiempo un alimento en el cual se incorpora el forraje  en diferentes proporciones, permite determinar si es rechazado o hasta que nivel es aceptado (Gonz&aacute;lez et al., 1995).</font>  </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Se ha rese&ntilde;ado elevado consumo de follaje de morera en bovinos, ovinos y caprinos (Prasad y Reddy, 1991); mientras que en conejos, existe escasa informaci&oacute;n sobre consumo y palatabilidad de esta  especie. El objetivo de esta investigaci&oacute;n fue evaluar la aceptabilidad de dietas con niveles crecientes (0, 10, 20 y 30 % ) de  morera en conejos destetados.</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>MATERIALES Y M&Eacute;TODOS</b></font></P>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">La prueba de aceptabilidad se realiz&oacute; durante 12 d&iacute;as en la unidad cun&iacute;cola de la   UNELLEZ Guanare, Portuguesa, Venezuela; ubicada a una altitud aproximada de 255 msnm. El &aacute;rea presenta una temperatura media anual de 26°C,  precipitaci&oacute;n promedio anual de 1499 mm y humedad relativa de 74%. Se ubica en bosque seco tropical, seg&uacute;n la clasificaci&oacute;n de Holdridge (1979).</font> </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Se utilizaron 48 gazapos  Nueva Zelanda x California, con  peso vivo de  736,97±75,42 g;  alojados en 12 jaulas de 0,5 x 0,5 x 0,4 m, a raz&oacute;n de cuatro conejos y cuatro dietas/jaula. Se distribuyeron 04  tratamientos en 12 repeticiones seg&uacute;n  dise&ntilde;o completamente aleatorizado. Los tratamientos fueron:</font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">T0= 100% alimento concentrado en forma de harina (CFH)</font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">T1= 82% CFH + 10% follaje de morera (FM) + 8% melaza</font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">T2= 72% CFH + 20% FM + 8% melaza</font> </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">T3= 62% CFH + 30% FM + 8% melaza</font> </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">El follaje de morera cosechado, se sec&oacute; en el sol por 48 horas y se moli&oacute; utilizando criba de 3 mm. El  alimento se suministr&oacute; diariamente (80 g/ comedero) a las 8:00 AM. Se midi&oacute; consumo de las dietas (g/jaula/d&iacute;a) y el n&uacute;mero de intentos de consumo, definido como el n&uacute;mero de veces que el animal estuvo en contacto con el alimento,  al momento de suministro y cada 10 min/jaula  durante 1 hora. Se pes&oacute; diariamente el suministro y rechazo.</font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Se aplic&oacute; an&aacute;lisis de la varianza seg&uacute;n un dise&ntilde;o completamente aleatorizado y los promedios se compararon con la prueba de Tukey.</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>RESULTADOS Y DISCUSI&Oacute;N</b></font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">La composici&oacute;n qu&iacute;mica de las dietas evaluadas y de la morera, en base seca, se presenta en el <a href="#cua1"> Cuadro 1.</a> Hubo ligera disminuci&oacute;n en el porcentaje de prote&iacute;na cruda entre las dietas, en concordancia con contenido de este nutriente en la morera.</font> </P>     ]]></body>

La inclusi&oacute;n de morera produjo consumo similar en los conejos. Este resultado  demuestra que los conejos aceptan niveles elevados de follaje de morera  en la dieta.  Consumo semejante fue observado en alimento en forma de harina en pruebas de cafeter&iacute;a para dietas que conten&iacute;an Leucaena leucocephala y Arachis pintoi  (Nieves et al., 2002).</font>  </P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><a name="cua2"></a></P>     <P ALIGN="center" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><img border="0" src="/img/fbpe/zt/v22n2/art08cua2.gif" width="580" height="162"></P>     
<P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">En el<a href="#cua3"> Cuadro 3</a> se  muestra el n&uacute;mero de intentos de consumo (NI) acumulado por d&iacute;a de observaci&oacute;n. La inclusi&oacute;n de morera produjo diferencias (P&lt;0,05) para el NI entre tratamientos y fue mayor (P&lt;0,05) cuando no se incluy&oacute; morera. Sin embargo, la reducci&oacute;n en el NI no estuvo asociada con el consumo de las dietas.</font> </P>      <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><a name="cua3"></a></P>     <P ALIGN="center" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><img border="0" src="/img/fbpe/zt/v22n2/art08cua3.gif" width="580" height="125"></P>     
<P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">De lo anterior se deduce que a pesar de la falta de asociaci&oacute;n entre ambas variables, el consumo de las dietas presenta mayor exactitud para este tipo de investigaci&oacute;n, debido a que fue medida con un instrumento preciso;  mientras que la medici&oacute;n del n&uacute;mero de intentos de consumo puede presentar car&aacute;cter subjetivo. En consecuencia para evaluar aceptabilidad de este recurso se recomienda medir el consumo de las dietas.</font></P>      <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>CONCLUSION</b></font></P>     <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2">El consumo  del alimento no fue afectado por la inclusi&oacute;n de morera en la dieta, lo cual demuestra que los conejos aceptaron las dietas satisfactoriamente. Se recomienda realizar estudios de digestibilidad y de respuesta animal en conejos alimentados con dietas con inclusi&oacute;n de morera.</font></P>     ]]></body>
