Se ha reportado que los métodos de extracción con acetato de amonio y acetato de sodio modifican los valores naturales de la CIC, a la vez que se indica que el uso de cloruro de amonio puede eliminar las fuentes de error introducidas por los acetatos. En el presente trabajo, la CIC determinada mediante extracción y sumatoria de cationes con CH3COONH4 1 N pH 7 y con CH3COONa 1N pH 8,2 en arena y caolín (arcilla), fue comparada con la determinada por sumatoria con NH4Cl 0,2N al pH natural de la muestra. Los resultados fueron evaluados mediante un diseño totalmente aleatorio con cinco repeticiones y comparación de medias mediante MDS. Para la arena se consiguieron valores estadísticamente diferentes, por lo que no pudo establecerse correlación entre ambos métodos. No se consiguieron diferencias significativas entre la CIC del caolín determinada con NH4Cl o con CH3COONH4. En consecuencia, los valores fueron considerados semejantes. Se consiguió una baja desviación estándar de los valores obtenidos con el cloruro de amonio, lo cual sugiere que su uso podría ser confiable como método de rutina en suelos arcillosos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) depends on its determination conditions. There are reports stating that the ammonium acetate and sodium acetate modify the soil natural CEC values, and other reports point out that the ammonium chloride method, eliminates the sources of error introduced by the use of acetates. In the current study, the CEC determined by extraction and cation sum with CH3COONH4 1N pH 7 and CH3COONa 1N pH 8.2 in sand and kaolin (clay) were compared against the CEC by sum determined using NH4Cl 0.2N at the sample natural pH. Results were statistically compared through a completely randomized design with five replicates and mean discrimination by LSD test. For the sand, the values were statistically different, so no correlation could be established. For the kaolin, no statistic differences were found between CEC results obtained with CH3COONH4 and with NH4Cl, so the values were considered to be similar. The low standard deviation found for the values of the CEC obtained with the use of ammonium chloride proved that this method could be reliable to be routinely used for CEC determination in clay soils.]]></p></abstract>

Entre los métodos comúnmente utilizados para la medición de la capacidad de intercambio de cationes (CIC), están los que emplean el acetato de amonio o de sodio, como extractante (Wenk y Bulakh, 2004).</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">De acuerdo con Adams (1995), idealmente el método a utilizar para determinar la CIC es aquel que pueda medir la capacidad de los suelos de adsorber cationes de una solución acuosa con el</font> <font face="Verdana" size="2">mismo pH, fuerza iónica, constante dieléctrica y composición como la que presentan los suelos en el campo, debido a que la CIC varía con estos parámetros. Rhoades (1982) expresa que la CIC obtenida en los análisis de suelos es dependiente del método utilizado para su determinación. Indica que estos métodos presentan problemas asociados con las diversas propiedades químicas del suelo. Los métodos del acetato de amonio pH 7 y el acetato de sodio pH 8,2 disuelven los carbonatos presentes en los suelos incrementando la cantidad de cationes realmente cambiables y modifican el pH de la solución intermicelar (Meunier, 2005), lo cual a su vez modifica la CIC al pH natural del suelo y por lo tanto, ambos métodos pueden generar resultados que no se ajusten a la realidad del suelo.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Por su parte, Reeve y Sumner (1971) determinaron que el cloruro de amonio se comporta como una sal neutra, que no modifica el pH natural ni disuelve los carbonatos presentes en los suelos, y por lo tanto, no introduce esas fuentes de error en la determinación de la CIC.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Rodríguez y Rodríguez (2002) realizaron experimentos en un suelo de reacción ácida (Tropohumult) y en uno de reacción ligeramente alcalina (Camborthid) y determinaron que los valores de la CIC en el suelo ácido fueron similares para los tres métodos probados. Estos mismos autores consiguieron en el suelo de reacción alcalina, una mayor estabilidad en los valores de la CIC obtenidos con el método del cloruro de amonio y un alto grado de variabilidad de la CIC, cuando ésta era cuantificada con el acetato de amonio o el acetato de sodio.</font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Actualmente, aun conociéndose las limitaciones que se presentan en la determinación de la CIC, los métodos que incluyen el acetato a pH tamponado, se siguen utilizando rutinariamente. Es por eso que en este trabajo se intenta validar el método del cloruro de amonio en dos tipos de suelos, debido a que aun cuando se reporta que elimina dos fuentes de error comunes a la CIC, no ha sido utilizado rutinariamente.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">El objetivo fue la determinación comparativa de la CIC de una arena y de caolín con acetato de sodio y con acetato de amonio así como con cloruro de amonio al pH natural de la muestra, a fin de evaluar las similitudes entre los resultados, así como la confiabilidad y viabilidad del cloruro de amonio como método de rutina.</font></p> <b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Sustratos utilizados</font></p> </b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Los materiales evaluados fueron arena y caolín suministrados por la empresa Arcillas Blancas, ABS ubicada en Tamame de Sayago, Zamora, España. El caolín es denominado comercialmente como Caolín AB-45 (molido).</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Tanto a la fracción arena como al caolín se les realizó el análisis de distribución de tamaño de partículas, con pipeta al primero y con densímetro al segundo, así como la determinación del pH.</font></p> <b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Métodos empleados</font></p> </b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Método de saturación con acetato de sodio (CH<sub>3</sub>COONa) 1N pH 8,2 (Rhoades, 1982). Se obtuvo la CIC total.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Método de saturación con acetato de amonio (CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub>) 1N pH 7 (Rhoades, 1982). Se obtuvo la CIC total en forma directa y por suma de cationes.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Método de saturación con cloruro de amonio (NH<sub>4</sub>Cl) 0,2N al pH natural de la muestra (Reeve y Sumner, 1971). Se obtuvo la CIC por suma de cationes.</font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Los cationes Ca<sup>+2</sup>, Mg<sup>+2</sup>, K<sup>+</sup> fueron determinados por absorción atómica y el Na<sup>+</sup> por emisión, utilizando el equipo de absorción atómica. El pH fue determinado en el extracto de saturación.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana">Para analizar los valores obtenidos con las diferentes soluciones extractoras, se utilizó un diseño totalmente aleatorizado con cinco repeticiones y el método de la mínima diferencia significativa (MDS) para la separación de medias. Igualmente se calculó la media y la desviación estándar (SD) con la finalidad de estimar la variabilidad de los resultados en los suelos estudiados.</font></p> <b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana">RESULTADOS Y DISCUSIÓN</font></p> </b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana">En el <a href="#c1"> Cuadro 1</a> se presentan los valores del tamaño de partículas de arena y caolín. Se observa la pureza del material arenoso al estar compuesto en un 96,61% por arena, predominando las</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana">fracciones (USDA) de arena gruesa hasta media (85,43 %) y sólo un 1,78 % por arena fina y muy fina más limo y el 2,19 % restante lo constituye la arcilla. Por su parte, los valores para el caolín muestran predominio de partículas de tamaño arcilla (54%) y el limo fino (46%), no encontrándose partículas mayores a 15 <font SIZE="3"><font FACE="Symbol">m</font></font> m. Se puede observar que la CIC total obtenida con CH<sub>3</sub>COONa 1N pH 8,2, resultó mayor que la obtenida con CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7, tanto en las arenas como en el caolín. Esto puede explicarse ya que a pH de 8,2 ocurre una mayor disociación del ión H de los grupos OH que se encuentran en los bordes de las arcillas (Porta et al., 2003). Por tanto, en la caolinita (tipo 1:1), cuya carga es principalmente dependiente del pH (Goldberg et al., 2000), la CIC a pH 8,2 es mayor a la que ocurre a valores de pH más bajos.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Los datos reportados en el <a href="#c2"> Cuadro 2</a> revelan que los valores de CIC total para la arena, obtenidos con acetato de amonio y acetato de sodio son estadísticamente iguales, pero ambos son significativamente diferentes a los de la CIC obtenida por suma de cationes con cloruro de amonio y con acetato de amonio y que, a su vez, los resultados de estos últimos, son diferentes estadísticamente. Las diferencias estadísticas entre los valores de CIC obtenidos pueden tener su explicación en el hecho de que el acetato disuelve el calcio de la muestra (Rhoades, 1982).</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Las diferencias estadísticas entre los datos de la CIC total y la CIC por suma para la arena pueden explicarse por estas mismas razones, es decir, diferencias debidas fundamentalmente a las</font> <font face="Verdana" size="2">variaciones causadas por la disolución de calcio por el acetato. Así, si se restan los valores de calcio a la CIC determinada por suma se notará la similitud entre ésta y la CIC total.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">En el mismo <a href="#c2"> Cuadro 2</a> se pueden apreciar los valores de CIC obtenidos para el caolín por CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 (total), CH<sub>3</sub>COONa 1N pH 8,2 (total), NH<sub>4</sub>Cl 0,2N (suma) y CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 (suma). Los resultados indican que la CIC total determinada con el CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 y la CIC por suma del NH<sub>4</sub>Cl 0,2N son estadísticamente iguales. Esta situación arroja resultados que sugieren la posibilidad de sustituir el método del acetato de amonio por el del cloruro de amonio.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Los valores de CIC obtenidos con CH<sub>3</sub>COONa 1N pH 8,2 (total) y el CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 (suma) son estadísticamente similares entre sí pero significativamente diferentes a los obtenidos con el CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 (total) y NH<sub>4</sub>Cl 0,2 N (suma). La similitud de los resultados obtenidos con los dos primeros métodos no es confiable porque el primero disuelve los carbonatos con lo cual el valor de calcio tiende a ser relativamente alto (<a href="#c2">Cuadro 2</a>), mientras que la CIC del segundo aumenta con incrementos del pH (Bohn et al., 1993). Así, dependiendo del pH y de la concentración de carbonatos presentes en una muestra los resultados pueden variar significativamente. En consecuencia, no pudo establecerse correspondencia entre la CIC determinada por el método del cloruro de amonio y la determinada por el acetato de sodio 1N pH 8,2 (total) y el acetato de amonio 1 N pH 7 (suma).</font></p>     <blockquote>       <blockquote>         ]]></body>

<body><![CDATA[<p ALIGN="CENTER">-</font></td>     <td WIDTH="44" VALIGN="BOTTOM" HEIGHT="17"><font SIZE="1">           <p ALIGN="RIGHT">11,77 b</font></td>   </tr> </table> </center><font SIZE="2">     <p align="center"><font face="Verdana">Letras diferentes indican diferencias estadísticamente significativas según prueba de MDS al 5%.</font></p> </font>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">De la misma manera, se observa que la CIC obtenida con CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 (suma) y CH<sub>3</sub>COONa 1N pH 8,2 (total) resultó mayor que la obtenida con los otros dos métodos, situación congruente con lo reportado por Spósito (2000), quien indica que el valor de la CIC del primero se incrementa por la disolución del los carbonatos y la del segundo se incrementa con el aumento del pH de la solución extractante debido al incremento de las cargas variables.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">El que los valores de CIC obtenidos por CH<sub>3</sub>COONH<sub>4</sub> 1N pH 7 (total) y NH<sub>4</sub>Cl 0,2 N (suma) resultaran estadísticamente semejantes concuerdan con los resultados de Rodríguez y Rodríguez (2002) en cuanto a que la utilización de ambas soluciones extractoras en determinados suelos podían estimar con mucha similitud la CIC.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">Los bajos valores de desviación estándar observados con el cloruro de amonio destacan la precisión en los resultados obtenidos mediante el uso de este método.</font></p>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">La selección de una u otra solución extractante dependería del objetivo que se plantee el usuario; por ejemplo, clasificación taxonómica, así como del tipo y pH del suelo que se analice. No obstante, el uso del NH<sub>4</sub>Cl 0,2 N a diferentes valores de pH en suelos de textura arcillosa, permitiría la obtención de resultados confiables y costos comparativamente menores ya que reduciría los gastos en reactivos y disminuiría el esfuerzo y tiempo de trabajo necesario para la obtención de los resultados que los correspondientes a los otros métodos estudiados.</font></p> <b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">CONCLUSIONES</font></p> </b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">No pudo establecerse correspondencia entre la CIC determinada por el método del cloruro de amonio y la determinada por el acetato de sodio 1N pH 8,2 (total) y el acetato de amonio 1N pH 7 por suma de cationes. Sin embargo, la baja desviación estándar obtenida con el uso del cloruro de amonio en el caolín y la similitud entre la CIC determinada por extracción con el acetato de amonio 1 N pH 7 y con el cloruro de amonio no tamponado en el caolín sugieren la posibilidad del uso del cloruro de amonio como metodología de rutina para determinar la CIC en los suelos arcillosos.</font></p> <b>     <p ALIGN="justify"><font face="Verdana" size="2">AGRADECIMIENTO</font></p> </b>     ]]></body>
