Samples combining these two treatments were also obtained. The prepared solids were characterized by X-ray fluorescence diffraction (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and N2 adsorption. The catalytic activity was evaluated by using the alkylation of benzene with 1-dodecene. XRF results showed an increase in the metal content, giving evidence that the metal was effectively exchanged or deposited over the starting material. Al- and Fe-pillared clays showed a significant increase of the surface area, but this was not observed for the Cr-pillared one. Ion exchanged clays showed similar surface areas to that of the starting clay. From XRD results, only the Al-pillared clay gave an increase of the d-spacing. All catalysts showed low conversions towards the product of interest, and this is perhaps attributed to lack of molecular accessibility in the clay gallery or that there are no strong acid sites able to catalyze the alkylation, but strong enough to induce 1-dodecene isomerization. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Una arcilla natural esmectita (STx-1, USA) fue intercambiada con Al³+, Cr³+ y Fe³+ o pilareada con complejos de los mismos metales. También se prepararon arcillas pilareadas intercambiadas. Los sólidos fueron caracterizados por fluorescencia de rayos X (XRF), difracción de rayos X (XRD), análisis termogravimétrico (TGA) y adsorción de N2. La actividad catalítica fue evaluada usando la reacción de alquilación de benceno con 1-dodeceno. Los resultados de XRF mostraron un incremento en la cantidad del metal incorporado en las arcillas tratadas, lo cual indica que el catión intercambiado fue depositado sobre el material de partida. Los sólidos pilareados con aluminio o hierro, a excepción del pilareado con cromo, mostraron incrementos del área superficial. Las áreas superficiales de las arcillas intercambiadas fueron similares a la de la arcilla de partida. Los resultados de XRD mostraron un aumento del espaciamiento basal sólo para la ST-P-Al, producto de la expansión de las láminas. Los catalizadores mostraron bajas conversiones hacia el producto de interés, debido posiblemente a que no hay acceso de las moléculas a la región interlaminar o que los sitios ácidos no son lo suficientemente fuertes para catalizar la alquilación, pero si lo suficientemente fuerte para inducir la isomerización del dodeceno. Las arcillas  en su estado natural poseen poca habilidad para catalizar reacciones qu&#237;micas.  Sin embargo, las propiedades de estos materiales pueden ser mejoradas notablemente  empleando diferentes m&#233;todos de activaci&#243;n; por ejemplo la activaci&#243;n &#225;cida,  empleando &#225;cidos minerales, mejora considerablemente el &#225;rea superficial,  el volumen de poro y la acidez superficial [3-6]. Pilarizaci&#243;n, que consiste  en el desplazamiento a trav&#233;s del intercambio de los cationes interlaminares  de la arcilla (Na+, K+, y Ca<sup>2</sup>+) por un agente pilareante, el cual puede  ser un compuesto org&#225;nico o inorg&#225;nico [7, 8]. El tratamiento por intercambio  i&#243;nico, con iones altamente polarizantes, de peque&#241;o radio i&#243;nico (i.e.,  Al<sup>3</sup>+, Cr<sup>3</sup>+, Cu<sup>2</sup>+, Fe<sup>3</sup>+, Ni<sup>2</sup>+) proveen sitios &#225;cidos Br&#246;nsted que mejoran  la acidez superficial [9].&nbsp;</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="#1f1a17" size="2" face="Verdana"> Las arcillas pilareadas han sido usadas como catalizadores en reacciones  de Friedel-Craft [10], deshidrogenaci&#243;n de etilbenceno a estireno [11],  craqueo de etilbenceno con formaci&#243;n de etileno y benceno en arcillas pilareadas  con aluminio y con hierro [12], alquilaci&#243;n de benceno con etileno empleando  arcillas pilareadas con aluminio y aluminio/galio [13] y metilaci&#243;n de  tolueno con etileno en PILC-AlGa [14], entre muchas otras. En la actualidad,  la tendencia es combinar diferentes m&#233;todos de activaci&#243;n de arcillas a  fin de obtener catalizadores potenciales en reacciones de inter&#233;s comercial  e industrial.&nbsp; </FONT></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> Por otra parte, en los &#250;ltimos a&#241;os numerosos grupos de investigaci&#243;n se  han dedicado a la b&#250;squeda de s&#243;lidos &#225;cidos que reemplacen a los problem&#225;ticos  catalizadores l&#237;quidos (HF y H<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub>), usados en reacciones de alquilaci&#243;n  para producir bases de detergentes [15]. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este  trabajo fue estudiar el efecto de la activaci&#243;n a trav&#233;s del intercambio  cati&#243;nico con Al<sup>3</sup>+, Cr<sup>3</sup>+ y Fe<sup>3</sup>+, la pilarizaci&#243;n con &#243;xido de estos metales,  y la combinaci&#243;n de estos dos tratamiento en una arcilla natural, con la  finalidad de mejorar las propiedades &#225;cidas superficiales sin afectar la  estructura laminar del material de partida, y as&#237; obtener catalizadores  &#225;cidos potenciales en la reacci&#243;n de alquilaci&#243;n de benceno con 1-dodeceno.&nbsp;</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"> <B><FONT COLOR="#1f1a17" size="2" face="Verdana"> Procedimiento Experimental&nbsp; </FONT></B> </P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> La arcilla fue obtenida del Clay Mineral Repository de la Clay Mineral  Society y se utiliz&#243; sin emplear ning&#250;n tipo de purificaci&#243;n. Esta es una  Ca-montmorillonita (STx-1) con bajo contenido de hierro, de Texas-USA,  con una capacidad de intercambio cati&#243;nico de 0,84 meq/g de arcilla. La  arcilla STx-1 (referida como ST) fue sometida a tratamientos de intercambio  i&#243;nico con soluciones de AlCl<sub>3</sub>.6H<sub>2</sub>O (Aldrich, 98%), Cr(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub>.9H<sub>2</sub>O (Merck,  98%) y Fe(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub>.9H<sub>2</sub>O, Merck (99%) seg&#250;n el procedimiento descrito por Moronta et al. [16]. Las muestras derivadas de este tratamiento son identificadas  como ST-Al, ST-Cr y ST-Fe. La s&#237;ntesis de los complejos met&#225;licos de aluminio,  hierro y cromo para los procesos de pilarizaci&#243;n fue seguida usando los  m&#233;todos descritos por Oberto [13], Starke [17] y P&#233;rez Zurita et al. [18].  Las arcillas pilareadas se prepararon colocando en contacto cada uno de  los complejos preparados previamente con la arcilla ST. El proceso de intercambio  se llev&#243; a cabo de la siguiente manera: se prepar&#243; una suspensi&#243;n al 1%  p/v de la arcilla en agua, se dej&#243; 2 h en agitaci&#243;n constante y luego se  agreg&#243; lentamente la soluci&#243;n el complejo pilareante. La mezcla resultante  se dej&#243; en agitaci&#243;n por 2 h adicionales para garantizar el proceso de  intercambio, luego se decant&#243; el sobrenadante y el s&#243;lido fue lavado tres  veces y centrifugado. Finalmente, la muestra fue secada toda la noche a  120&#176;C y calcinada a 400&#176;C por 3 h. Las muestras son identificadas con ST-P-Al,  ST-P-Cr y ST-P-Fe. Para la s&#237;ntesis de las arcillas pilareadas-intercambiados  se tomaron dos muestra de la arcilla pilareada con aluminio. La primera  fue colocada en contacto con una soluci&#243;n acuosa 0,1 M de Cr(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub>.9H<sub>2</sub>O  (Cr/ST-P-Al) y la otra con una soluci&#243;n acuosa de 0,1 M de Fe(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub>.9H<sub>2</sub>O  (Fe/ST-P-Al). Esta suspensi&#243;n fue colocada en bolsas de di&#225;lisis, sumergidas  en agua destilada, por dos d&#237;as, con el prop&#243;sito de lavar y eliminar los  iones Cl- y NO<sub>3</sub>-. Luego fue separada por decantaci&#243;n y posteriormente secada  a 120&#176;C. Se aplic&#243; el mismo procedimiento a las arcillas pilareadas con  cromo (intercambiada con Al y Fe, Al/ST-P-Cr y Fe/ST-P-Cr) y hierro (intercambiada  con Al y Cr, Al/ST-P-Fe y Cr/ST-P-Fe).&nbsp;</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> El &#225;rea superficial de los catalizadores preparados se determin&#243; por adsorci&#243;n  de nitr&#243;geno a -196&#176;C, usando un porosimetro Micromeritics modelo G&#233;minis  2375. Las muestras fueron calentadas a 300&#176;C en vac&#237;o por 1 h antes de  realizar las medidas de adsorci&#243;n. El &#225;rea superficial (<sub>SBET</sub>) se calcul&#243;  usando el m&#233;todo BET. EL volumen total de poro fue calculado a partir de  la cantidad adsorbida a una presi&#243;n relativa cercana a la unidad. El &#225;rea  de microporo (<sub>Smicro</sub>) se determin&#243; por el m&#233;todo t-plot y el &#225;rea de mesoporo (<sub>Smeso</sub>) se calcul&#243; sustrayendo el valor de Smicro del valor de SBET. Los  diagramas de difracci&#243;n de rayos X de los catalizadores arcillosos fueron  obtenidos en un difract&#243;metro Philips PW 1120, operando a 40 kV y 20 mA  a una velocidad de barrido de 2&#176;/min desde 2&#176; hasta 50&#176; de 2</font><font size="2" face="Symbol"><i>q</i></font><font face="Verdana" size="2">, usando la  radiaci&#243;n Co-Ka. La composici&#243;n qu&#237;mica fue determinada por XRF usando  un equipo Shimadsu EDX-700 HS. Las muestras en forma de polvo fueron soportadas  sobre una pel&#237;cula de polipropileno de 5 &#181;m y analizadas en vac&#237;o.&nbsp;</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> La acidez superficial se determin&#243; utilizando la desorci&#243;n de ciclohexilamina  seguida por an&#225;lisis termogravim&#233;trico (TGA). Las muestras (secadas previamente  a 120&#176;C toda la noche) fueron expuestas a los vapores de la base por 48  h. Se utiliz&#243; una temobalanza Mettler TG50 equipada con un procesador TC11  para determinar la p&#233;rdida de peso entre 240 y 350&#176;C y evaluar la acidez  en t&#233;rminos de los milimoles de ciclohexilamina desorbidos. Para esta determinaci&#243;n  se pesaron 10-20 mg que fueron sometidos a un programa de calentamiento  desde 35 hasta 800&#176;C a una velocidad de calentamiento de 20&#176;C/min en un  flujo de nitr&#243;geno (60 cm<sup>3</sup>/min). En general las muestras fueron acondicionadas  en flujo de nitr&#243;geno por 15 min hasta que se registr&#243; un peso estable.&nbsp;</font></P>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> La actividad catal&#237;tica fue evaluada empleando la reacci&#243;n de alquilaci&#243;n  de benceno con 1-dodeceno en una relaci&#243;n de 5:1, para producir dodecilbenceno  como producto principal. La reacci&#243;n se llev&#243; a cabo en una l&#237;nea de acero  inoxidable. El catalizador fue tratado in situ a 200&#176;C en un reactor de  acero a presi&#243;n atmosf&#233;rica en flujo de Ar de 30 cm<sup>3</sup>/min. Se colocaron  200 mg del catalizador, en flujo de l&#237;quido de 0,5 cm<sup>3</sup>/min, luego se aument&#243;  la presi&#243;n a 2000 kPa (presi&#243;n de reacci&#243;n) manteniendo la temperatura  inicial. La mezcla de reacci&#243;n fue analizada por cromatograf&#237;a de gas utilizando  un cromat&#243;grafo Perkin Elmer Auto System XL equipado con un FID y una columna  capilar con 5% de metil fenil silicona de 30 m de longitud, un di&#225;metro  interno de 250 &#181;m y un espesor de pel&#237;cula de 0,25 &#181;m.&nbsp;</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"> <B><FONT COLOR="#1f1a17" size="2" face="Verdana"> Resultados y Discusi&#243;n&nbsp; </FONT></B> </P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> La <a href="#Tabla 1"> Tabla 1</a> muestra la composici&#243;n qu&#237;mica y las relaciones M<sub>x</sub>O<sub>y</sub>/SiO<sub>2</sub>, determinada  por XRF de la arcilla de partida y la de los s&#243;lidos sintetizados. La arcilla  intercambiada con aluminio muestra un ligero incremento de este metal con  respecto al contenido inicial en ST; para ST-Fe y ST-Cr se observa claramente  el aumento tanto de hierro como de cromo, indicando que con el tratamiento  se logr&#243; el desplazamiento del calcio. De igual forma en las arcillas pilareadas  con aluminio, hierro y cromo, se observa un aumento mayor de la cantidad  de metal correspondiente, debido a que en este caso se emple&#243; un agente  pilareante con mayor cantidad de metal por mol&#233;cula intercambiada, por  ejemplo en el caso del hierro el complejo contiene 3 &#225;tomos de hierro por  mol&#233;cula. Las arcillas pilareadas-intercambiadas tambi&#233;n mostraron un aumento  en el contenido de metal. Las arcillas intercambiadas  con aluminio, hierro y cromo presentaron valores muy similares de &#225;rea  superficial, &#225;rea de mesoporo y volumen de poros. Sin embargo, el &#225;rea  y volumen de microporos aumentaron. Esto es debido a que durante los procesos  de intercambio se originan alteraciones en el modelo de apilamiento de  las l&#225;minas de la arcilla de partida [19]. El &#225;rea superficial de la arcilla  pilareada con aluminio o hierro increment&#243; de 76 a 176 y 140 m<FONT COLOR="#1f1a17"><SUP>2</SUP>/g, respectivamente,  y hubo un ligero incremento del &#225;rea en las arcillas pilareadas-intercambiadas.  Este resultado era esperado, ya que los procesos de pilarizaci&#243;n crean  una mayor microporosidad y mesoporosidad, debido a la expansi&#243;n de las  l&#225;minas y que el pilar genera &#225;rea superficial dentro de las galer&#237;as de  la arcilla. En la arcilla pilareada con cromo no se observaron cambios  significativos en el &#225;rea, indicando que no hubo expansi&#243;n de las l&#225;minas. Se observa la se&#241;al correspondiente a la reflexi&#243;n d001 para los  cuatro s&#243;lidos. Esta se&#241;al se encuentra bien definida y es m&#225;s intensa  en comparaci&#243;n con los otros picos de reflexi&#243;n, lo que indica un alto  grado de ordenamiento laminar. Adicionalmente, aparecen picos de reflexi&#243;n  a 22,5o y 35o caracter&#237;sticos de arcillas esmectitas [20]. En el patr&#243;n  de difracci&#243;n de la arcilla pilareada con aluminio (no mostrado) se observ&#243;  el pico del plano cristalogr&#225;fico d<sub>001</sub> que corresponde a un espaciado de  16,4 &#197;. Sin embargo, en los patrones de las arcillas pilareadas con Cr  y Fe no se observ&#243; la se&#241;al correspondiente al plano d<sub>001</sub>, esto es atribuido  a la p&#233;rdida del orden laminar originado por los diferentes procesos de  intercambio.&nbsp;</font></P>     ]]></body>

<P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> En los patrones de difracci&#243;n para las arcillas pilareadas-intercambiadas  Fe/ST-P-Al y Cr/ST-P-Al (no mostrados) no hubo cambios en la se&#241;al d<sub>001</sub>,  indicando que el tratamiento de intercambio sobre la arcilla pilareada  no modifica la estructura del s&#243;lido. Zhu et al. [21] encontraron que el  patr&#243;n de difracci&#243;n de una montmorillonita pilareada con aluminio e intercambiada  con Cu o Ni mantuvo la posici&#243;n de la se&#241;al d<sub>001</sub> despu&#233;s de haberla sometido  a los procesos de intercambio, lo que indica que la estructura se mantuvo  despu&#233;s de los tratamientos.&nbsp;</font></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> Los resultados de acidez superficial determinados por desorci&#243;n de ciclohexilamina  (CHA) se muestran en la <a href="#Tabla 3"> Tabla 3</a>. Se observa que los valores m&#225;s altos los  presentan la arcilla intercambiada con aluminio y la pilareada con aluminio,  alrededor de 0,63 y 0,65 mmolCHA<sup>+</sup>/g, respectivamente. Esto es debido a  la mayor habilidad que tiene el Al de polarizar mol&#233;culas de agua, generando  una mayor concentraci&#243;n de protones (sitios Bronsted) [22] ya que su relaci&#243;n  carga/radio (0,076) es mayor que la del Fe y Cr (0,046 y 0,049). El valor  relativamente alto de la acidez obtenido en la arcilla ST se debe al alto  contenido de calcio, capaz de interactuar con la base [23]. El alto valor  de acidez mostrado para el s&#243;lido pilareado con aluminio, es quiz&#225;s debido  a que durante la deshidroxilaci&#243;n del cati&#243;n de Johansson se form&#243; &#243;xido  de aluminio y al mismo tiempo se generaron protones [24]. La acidez de  las arcillas pilareadas-intercambiadas con aluminio, cromo y hierro pueden  correlacionarse con los valores de la relaci&#243;n carga/radio. Los catalizadores preparados mostraron actividad hacia la formaci&#243;n de  productos de isomerizaci&#243;n del 1-dodeceno y alquilaci&#243;n de benceno (<a href="#fig3">Figura 3</a>). Los catalizadores Al/ST-P-Fe y Fe/ST-P-Al mostraron actividades muy  bajas de 2,4 y 3%, correspondientes a productos de craqueo. Los catalizadores  m&#225;s activos para la alquilaci&#243;n de benceno con 1-dodeceno y para la isomerizaci&#243;n  del 1-dodeceno fueron Cr/ST-P-Al, ST-Fe, ST-Al, ST-P-Al y ST-Cr. Las arcillas  intercambiadas con aluminio, cromo y hierro mostraron conversiones cercanas  a la de la arcilla pilareada con aluminio, lo que permite pensar que la  reacci&#243;n se da a nivel superficial debido a que el catalizador ST-P-Al,  con propiedades m&#225;s favorables para catalizar la reacci&#243;n (<I>e.g.,</I> mayor  &#225;rea superficial, acidez y espaciado interlaminar) deber&#237;a ser el m&#225;s activo. </FONT><font face="Verdana" size="2">  La arcilla pilareada con aluminio e intercambiada con cromo fue la que  mostr&#243; una mayor actividad hacia la producci&#243;n de alquilbenceno debido  a que esta muestra presenta una alta &#225;rea superficial (177 m<sup>2</sup>/g) a pesar  de poseer una acidez moderada (0,36 mmol CHA/g). Geatti et al. [10] sintetizaron  una arcilla pilareada con aluminio e intercambiadas con K, Al y La, y evaluaron  la acidez con la adsorci&#243;n de piridina seguida por IR. Estos autores encontraron  ambos tipos de acidez, siendo la acidez Bronsted mayor en el s&#243;lido intercambiado  con aluminio. La actividad catal&#237;tica para la alquilaci&#243;n de benceno con  propeno present&#243; bajas conversiones, y esta estuvo fuertemente relacionada  con la poblaci&#243;n de sitios &#225;cidos fuertes de Lewis. Es conocido que la  alquilaci&#243;n de Friedel-Crafts con olefinas es catalizada por un catalizador  &#225;cido de Lewis, en presencia de una peque&#241;a proporci&#243;n de un co-catalizador  donor de protones. Este hecho pudiera, quiz&#225;s, explicar el comportamiento  del catalizador Cr/ST-P-Al, en el cual seg&#250;n la caracterizaci&#243;n por IR  realizada por Geatti et al. [10], el PILC-Al mostr&#243; una concentraci&#243;n elevada  de sitios &#225;cidos tipo Lewis y debido a que el cromo tiene la propiedad  de polarizar mol&#233;culas de agua y generar protones que aumentan la acidez  Br&#246;nsted [9]. Por lo tanto, el catalizador derivado de la arcilla pilareada  con aluminio-intercambiada con cromo posee las propiedades &#225;cidas adecuadas  para catalizar la reacci&#243;n de alquilaci&#243;n de benceno con 1-dodeceno. Otra  posibilidad es que ocurra la sustituci&#243;n isomorfica del Cr por Si despu&#233;s  de la calcinaci&#243;n lo cual crear&#237;a un potencial sitio &#225;cido de Lewis.</font></P>     <P ALIGN="center" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><a name="fig2"><img border="0" src="/img/fbpe/rtfiuz/v30n2/art05fig2.gif" width="570" height="394"></a></P>

<P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="#1f1a17" size="2" face="Verdana"> En general todos los catalizadores preparados mostraron bajas conversiones  hacia el producto de inter&#233;s; s&#243;lo el catalizador Cr/ST-P-Al produjo una  conversi&#243;n favorable (aprox. 27%) para el alquilato. Estos resultados hacen  presumir lo siguiente: (a) que los sitios activos no son lo suficiente  &#225;cidos para inducir la alquilaci&#243;n, pero si lo suficientemente efectivos  para catalizar la isomerizaci&#243;n del 1-dodeceno; (b) que las conversiones  relativamente altas para el producto de isomerizaci&#243;n de 1-dodeceno hace  pensar que hay una competencia de ambas mol&#233;culas reactantes por el sitio  activo; y/o (c) que no hay acceso conjunto de las mol&#233;culas de reactante  a la regi&#243;n interlaminar debido a sus dimensiones moleculares.&nbsp; </FONT></P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"> <B><FONT COLOR="#1f1a17" size="2" face="Verdana"> Conclusiones&nbsp; </FONT></B> </P>     <P ALIGN="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="#1f1a17" size="2" face="Verdana"> La idea original de este trabajo fue sintetizar s&#243;lidos &#225;cidos potenciales  para la reacci&#243;n de alquilaci&#243;n de benceno con 1-dodeceno. Desafortunadamente,  los catalizadores basados en arcillas intercambiadas, pilareadas y pilareadas-intercambiadas  no fueron activos para la reacci&#243;n de inter&#233;s. Sin embargo, se observaron  conversiones hacia la isomerizaci&#243;n del 1-dodeceno. Se piensa que los sitios  &#225;cidos no son lo suficientemente fuerte para catalizar la alquilaci&#243;n,  pero si lo suficiente para inducir la isomerizaci&#243;n. Adem&#225;s se evidencia  que existe una competencia de ambas mol&#233;culas reactantes por los sitios  activos y/o que no hay acceso molecular en la regi&#243;n interlaminar debido  al gran tama&#241;o de ambas mol&#233;culas.&nbsp; </FONT></P>     ]]></body>
