Cada especie se analizó en términos de su composición química (PC, FDN, FDA, lignina, celulosa, hemicelulosa, Calcio, Fósforo, ceniza, presencia de metabolitos secundarios y niveles de fenoles totales, taninos condensados e inhibidores de tripsina). La especie más preferida fue C. tinctoria (0,334 kg MS). Le siguieron M. alba (0,271 kg MS) y P. pedicellare (0,255 kg MS) las cuales fueron estadísticamente diferentes (P<0,05) a las medianamente consumidas: G. sepium (0,183 kg MS), G. ulmifolia (0,164 kg MS), C. alba (0,157 kg MS), T. gigantea (0,156 kg MS) y T. diversifolia (0,141 kg MS), estas difirieron de: L. leucocephala (0,079 kg MS) y M. oleifera (0,067 kg MS). El consumo más bajo se observó con A. indica (0,025 kg MS) y S. saman (0,022 kg MS). Durante el periodo experimental se observaron diferentes tendencias en el consumo de cada especie, las cuales podrían estar asociadas a la composición química de los forrajes, específicamente la presencia de metabolitos secundarios con posibles propiedades disuasivas. Los resultados destacan la importancia de realizar estudios de preferencia animal en la caracterización inicial de árboles y arbustos con potencial forrajero.]]></p></abstract>

An experimental square latin design with evaluation period of twelve days was used. Measurements included forage intake for species which were chemically analyzed in terms of chemical composition (CP, NDF, ADF, lignin, cellulose, Calcium, Phosphorus, ash, secondary metabolites presences and total phenols, condensed tannins and tripsin inhibitors level). C. tinctoria (0.334 kg DM) showed the greatest preference, with significant differences (P<0.05) in relation to the others. M. alba (0.271 kg DM) and P. pedicellare (0.255 kg DM) followed by G. sepium (0.183 kg DM), G. ulmifolia (0.164 kg DM), C. alba (0.157 kg DM), T. gigantea (0.156 kg DM) and T. diversifolia (0.141 kg DM). No obstante, se conoce poco sobre la preferencia, palatabilidad  y valor nutritivo de numerosas forrajeras de amplia distribución en el  trópico latinoamericano [1]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> En los últimos años se han realizado muchos estudios sobre el consumo de  leñosas por los animales herbívoros. Sin embargo se ha evidenciado que,  algunos de los métodos utilizados para clasificar la preferencia de los  forrajes no convencionales, en ocasiones presentan inconvenientes considerables,  ya que son laboriosos, costosos y en muchos casos de elevada complejidad  [20]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Considerando sus limitaciones prácticas, los métodos basados en mediciones  asociados al consumo por parte de pequeños rumiantes en estabulación, resultan  uno de los procedimientos más sencillos y viables en condiciones de bajos  insumos [12]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> En muchas ocasiones el orden de preferencia de los forrajes no se ha podido  relacionar directamente con las particularidades químicas de cada fuente  de alimento, debido a la carencia en las pruebas de evaluación, de determinaciones  de metabolitos secundarios los cuales pueden afectar el consumo voluntario  de los animales [11]. </FONT></P>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Por tales motivos, el objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar la preferencia  por cabras <I>(Capra hircus) </I>de doce especies con potencial forrajero en la  Zona Baja del estado Trujillo y conocer la composición química de la biomasa. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><B><FONT COLOR="000000"> MATERIAL</FONT></B><FONT COLOR="000000"><B>ES Y MÉTODOS</B></FONT></font></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><B><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Características de la zona </FONT></B></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> El experimento se desarrolló en la Estación Experimental y de Producción  Agrícola “Rafael Rangel” de la Universidad de los Andes en el municipio  Pampán, estado Trujillo, Venezuela, a 200 msnm. La precipitación promedio  en el área es de 1200 mm, temperatura media de 27°C y humedad relativa  de 76,8% [11]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><B><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Manejo de los animales </FONT></B></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Se utilizaron doce cabras Criollas adultas de 36,3 ± 4,4 kg de peso vivo,  no gestantes ni lactantes, las cuales se seleccionaron sobre la base de  pesos y edades similares, sin antecedentes de consumo de las especies ofertadas.  Antes de la evaluación, los animales se encontraban en condiciones de pastoreo  semiextensivo en áreas de <I>Cynodon</I> spp.<I>  y Digitaria </I>spp.<I>,</I> únicamente suplementados  con sal mineral. Cada animal fue desparasitado con Sulfóxido de Albendazol  (0,12 g por animal) y se aplicó 5 ml de complejo vitamínico (Foscolvit®)  15 días antes de la fase experimental. Cada animal fue confinado en corrales  individuales de 5 x 5 m con piso de cemento, protegidos del sol y de la  lluvia, en los cuales se situaron los comederos divididos en doce compartimentos  donde se suministraron las hojas y los tallos tiernos de las arbóreas.  Los animales fueron adaptados a la alimentación en confinamiento durante  un periodo de quince días, después de los cuales se comenzó a ofertar las  especies a estudiar. Durante la etapa de evaluación en las horas de consumo,  los animales no tuvieron contacto visual entre sí. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><B><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Estrategia de alimentación </FONT></B></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Durante el periodo de adaptación a las condiciones de estabulación, las  cabras fueron alimentadas con pasto estrella (<I>Cynodon</I> <I>nlemfuensis)</I> como  dieta basal <I>ad libitum. </I>En el periodo experimental los animales se alimentaron  con las especies de manera simultánea y a razón de 0,80 kg MS animal/día.  Cada follaje se cosechó el mismo día de su utilización entre las 7:00 y  8:30 h. Estos fueron ofrecidos durante seis horas diariamente por la misma  persona y en las horas siguientes a los animales solo se les ofreció pasto  estrella<I> </I>y agua a voluntad. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><B><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Características de las especies </FONT></B></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Las especies evaluadas fueron: <I>Clorophora tinctoria</I> (Mora), <I>Morus alba  </I>(Morera),<I> Pithecellobium pedicellare</I> (Hueso de pescao), <I>Gliricidia sepium  </I>(Rabo de ratón), <I>Guazuma ulmifolia </I>(Guácimo), <I>Cordia alba</I> (Caujaro),<I> Trichantera  gigantea </I>(Naranjillo), <I>Tithonia diversifolia</I> (Tara),<I> Leucaena leucocephala</I>  (Leucaena), <I>Moringa oleifera </I>(Moringa), <I>Azadirachta indica </I>(árbol del Nin)<I>  </I>y <I>Samanea saman</I> (Samán)<I>. </I>La recolección de la biomasa comestible se realizó  a partir de parcelas individuales de cinco años de establecidas (5 x 10  m) pertenecientes al banco forrajero del módulo caprino de la Estación,  las cuales contenían las doce especies a evaluar podadas cada 90 días a  0,5 m sobre el nivel del suelo. EI follaje se colocó en cada espacio del  comedero durante cada día de evaluación, de tal forma que ocuparan todos  los lugares posibles. </FONT></P>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><B><FONT COLOR="000000"> Mediciones </FONT></B><FONT COLOR="000000"> <B> y métodos analíticos empleados</B> </FONT></font></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Diariamente se midió el consumo de cada especie, el cual se determinó mediante  la diferencia entre la cantidad de forraje ofrecido y rechazado. Se tomaron  500 g del follaje ofrecido y rechazado para cuantificar el contenido de  materia seca a través del secado en estufa (60°C por 48 h). Adicionalmente,  700 g de cada una se llevaron de forma inmediata al laboratorio y se secaron  a temperatura ambiente en un local ventilado y oscuro durante cinco días.  Posteriormente, las muestras fueron molidas hasta un tamaño de partícula  de 1 mm y se almacenaron en frascos herméticos hasta la realización de  los análisis de laboratorio. Se determinaron los contenidos de proteína  cruda (PC), calcio (Ca), fósforo (P) y ceniza mediante las metodologías  propuestas por la AOAC [3]. La fibra detergente neutro (FDN), fibra detergente  ácida (FDA), lignina ácido detergente (LAD), celulosa (Cel) y hemicelulosa  (Hcel) se cuantificaron según los protocolos descritos por Van Soest y  col<I>.</I> [25]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Se evaluó la presencia de alcaloides (Alc), cumarinas (Cum), terpenoides  (Terp), saponinas (Sap) y compuestos amargos (C. amg). La detección de  cada grupo de metabolitos se realizó mediante el tamizaje fitoquímico según  los ensayos cualitativos [8]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> La cuantificación de los fenoles totales (FT) se realizó mediante el empleo  del reactivo de Folin-Ciocalteu [15], los taninos condensados (TC) mediante  el método de nButanol/HCl/Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> [19] y los Inhibidores de tripsina empleando  análisis de actividad enzimática con patrón sintético [3]. Los porcentajes  de inhibición de la tripsina (Inh) se calcularon a partir de las deducciones  propuestas por Kakade y col. [13]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><B><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Análisis de información </FONT></B></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Se evaluaron doce especies, las cuales constituyeron los tratamientos.  En las evaluaciones de calidad de los forrajes se utilizó un diseño completamente  aleatorizado con cinco réplicas/especie. Para la prueba de aceptabilidad  se empleó un diseño de cuadrado latino y todos los resultados se sometieron  a un análisis de varianza mediante el procedimiento GLM (General Lineal  Model) del paquete estadístico SAS [21]. Aunque los contenidos de calcio y fósforo de las arbóreas, en  algunos casos, no cubren los requerimientos para la producción del ganado  caprino a pastoreo; las concentraciones son similares a las reportadas  para la biomasa de numerosos árboles forrajeros en Venezuela [4]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Independientemente de las diferencias numéricas encontradas en los contenidos  de PC, fracción fibrosa y cenizas, todos los forrajes ofertados a las cabras  se pueden considerar buenas opciones en la suplementación de estos animales. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Las diferencias estadísticas en los componentes químicos evaluados, quizás  se encuentren relacionadas con las particularidades del metabolismo de  cada especie [18], ya que todas presentaban la misma edad, fenología y  se encontraban sometidas al mismo manejo agronómico. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Al analizar los niveles de los metabolitos secundarios, y su rango de variabilidad  interespecífica, las concentraciones de FT coinciden con las informadas  para un numeroso grupo de arbóreas de amplia distribución en el trópico  americano, las cuales han sido caracterizadas mediante el mismo procedimiento  de cuantificación [24]. Sin embargo, los resultados obtenidos son difíciles  de compararlos con los reportados por otros autores, ya que al determinar  estos compuestos mediante otros métodos analíticos se obtienen resultados  muy variables [11,15,19]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> En ese sentido, los contenidos de FT y TC se consideran intermedios y no  superan, en la mayoría de los casos, los límites críticos (FT: 4,1%; TC:  6,0%) en los cuales ocasionan daños al buen funcionamiento digestivo de  los rumiantes [15]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Desde el punto de vista nutricional, la cuantificación de compuestos secundarios  con potencial antinutricional y/o tóxico tiene gran relevancia en las pruebas  de aceptabilidad, ya que cuando éstos se encuentran en elevadas concentraciones  afectan el metabolismo digestivo de los rumiantes y los animales tienden  a disminuir el consumo de la fuente que los contiene para evitar así los  efectos negativos que provocan [1]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Por otra parte, la concentración de TC en todas las especies se encuentra  en el rango en que estos metabolitos causan efectos beneficiosos en la  nutrición de los rumiantes, proporcionando así una importante cantidad  de nitrógeno a las partes bajas del tracto gastrointestinal [15]. </FONT></P>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Sin embargo, muchas investigaciones sugieren que la determinación de TC  mediante el desarrollo de color con nButanol en medio ácido (procedimiento  clásico) no refleja biológicamente el posible efecto detrimental de los  taninos en la nutrición, ya que se han encontrado correlaciones muy débiles  entre los contenidos de polifenoles condensados cuantificados por esta  metodología y parámetros tales como degradabilidad ruminal, digestibilidad  y producción de gas <I>in vitro</I> [15]. Estas inconsistencias en las pruebas  de nutrición con taninos podrían deberse a que la toxicidad del polifenol  también depende de su peso molecular, estructura y configuración espacial  [10]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Con relación a los porcentajes de inhibición de la tripsina los valores  oscilaron entre 18,43 en <I>M. oleifera</I> y 48,32% en <I>S. saman</I>, esto indica  la presencia de proteínas o péptidos de origen no inmune que pudieran imposibilitar  la hidrólisis y degradación efectiva de las macromoléculas proteicas de  la dieta. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Aunque, en sentido general, las proporciones son bajas si se comparan con  los inhibidores presentes en las semillas de numerosas leguminosas y oleaginosas,  estos resultados se deben tener en cuenta al evaluar el potencial nutritivo  de estas especies para su uso como forraje en animales monogástricos [23]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> De los compuestos secundarios investigados mediante la utilización de las  pruebas cualitativas se detectaron todos los grupos, en dependencia de  la especie evaluada. En sentido general, estos metabolitos presentan una  acentuada actividad biológica por su acción negativa sobre el sistema digestivo  de los rumiantes. No obstante, algunos de ellos, como los polifenoles y  algunas Sap, pueden ocasionar beneficios apreciables a la salud animal,  en relación al tipo de compuesto y la concentración en la biomasa [10]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Por otra parte, se observó la presencia de Alc, Cum, Terp, Sap y C. amg  los cuales clásicamente ocasionan trastornos nutricionales, pérdida de  peso, anemia y gastroenteritis cuando sus concentraciones en la biomasa  son apreciables o se utilizan en proporciones elevadas en la dieta, es  un aspecto negativo a considerar [4,11]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Los C. amg se detectaron cuantiosamente sólo en los forrajes que presentaron  elevada cantidad de Sap y Terp (<I>T. diversifolia, A. indica </I>y<I>  S. saman</I>),  ya que el sabor amargo se encuentra estrechamente relacionado con la presencia  de estos metabolitos [17]. Estos resultados, desde el punto de vista integral,  describen la baja calidad organoléptica de la biomasa de dichas especies  para la alimentación de los animales. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> La presencia de Alc se detectó en muchas de las especies evaluadas, a excepción  de <I>M. oleifera</I>, <I>G. ulmifolia</I> y <I>C. alba</I>, resultados que apoyan la hipótesis  de que los compuestos alcaloidales se encuentran presentes en gran parte  de las especies tropicales. Estos metabolitos nitrogenados forman constituyen  compuestos secundarios típicos de las dicotiledóneas y se han realizado  numerosos estudios químicos-nutricionales a partir de las leguminosas forrajeras  del género <I>Erythrina</I> que demuestran su toxicidad en rumiantes y monogástricos  [22,23]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> En la <a href="#fig1"> FIG. 1 </a> se muestra la preferencia absoluta, mostrada en la prueba  de cafetería con cabras, durante el periodo en que fueron ofrecidos los  forrajes. </FONT></P>      <P align="center" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><a name="fig1"><img border="0" src="/img/fbpe/rc/v18n5/art04fig1.gif" width="578" height="746"></a></P>      
<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> El mayor consumo realizado por las cabras fue de 0,334 ± 0,03 kg MS<I> </I>(<I>C.  tinctoria</I>). En ese orden se observaron consumos similares para la<I> morera y P. pedicellare </I>el cual fue de<I> </I>0,262 ± 0,02 kg MS<I>. </I>Este último valor fue  estadísticamente diferentes (P&lt;0,05) al consumo de la mayoría de los forrajes  evaluados (0,160 ± 0,07 kg MS) que agrupó a <I>G. sepium, G. ulmifolia</I>,<I> C.  alba</I>,<I> T. gigantea </I>y<I> T. diversifolia</I>. En ese orden, el consumo de <I>L. leucocephala</I>  y <I>A. indica</I> no presentó diferencias entre sí con un valor medio de 0,073  ± 0,02 kg MS. El consumo más bajo fue de 0,023 ± 0,01 kg MS para el caso  de <I>A. indica</I> y <I>S. saman</I>. </FONT></P>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Las causas del bajo consumo del grupo final pudieran deberse a diversos  factores, tales como la morfología de las hojas y/o el olor penetrante  de la moringa y el árbol del Nin [16]. Sin embargo, esta menor preferencia  no implica necesariamente que sean menos importantes ya que pueden ser  útiles durante el periodo de menor disponibilidad de forraje, cuando el  resto de las especies mejor consumidas se encuentren con poca disponibilidad  de biomasa o cuando su distribución geográfica sea limitada en determinadas  áreas. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> La literatura señala que las pruebas de cafetería son la mejor vía para  estimar la preferencia relativa de un alimento, ya que el ofrecimiento  simultáneo de forrajeras con diferentes características en su composición  química y organoléptica, refleja una competencia entre ellas. Sin embargo,  es necesario considerar que la palatabilidad o preferencia de los forrajes  es un fenómeno extremadamente complejo, el cual está determinado no solo  por la presencia de metabolitos secundarios con potencial tóxico, los cuales  son detectados por los animales, sino también, por las características  etológicas, el tipo y la categoría del animal, sus hábitos alimentarios,  la disponibilidad de material voluminoso y la época del año y de factores  tales como la disposición de las ramas, la presencia de defensas físicas,  la rugosidad y la pubescencia de las hojas [2]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Considerando la dinámica del consumo durante la etapa experimental la <a href="#fig2"> FIG.  2</a> muestra las particularidades encontradas para cada grupo de especies. </FONT></P>      <P align="center" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><a name="fig2"><img border="0" src="/img/fbpe/rc/v18n5/art04fig2.gif" width="575" height="633"></a></P>      
<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Se observaron cuatro tendencias definidas. En las especies <I>G. sepium</I>,<I> G.  ulmifolia</I>,<I> C. alba</I>,<I>  T. gigantea </I> y<I>  M. oleifera </I> se observó un aumento del  consumo entre el tercer y quinto día.<I>  En P. pedicellare</I>,<I> T. diversifolia</I>  y <I>L. leucocephala</I> el consumo disminuyó hasta la cuarta medición.<I> </I>Un tercer  grupo estuvo formado por las especies que fueron poco consumidas (<I>A. indica  </I>y<I> S. saman)</I>, las cuales no presentaron variaciones sustanciales del consumo  durante todo el periodo experimental<I>. Por su parte, el consumo de las integrantes  de la familia Moraceae (C. tinctoria</I> y <I>M. alba</I>) aumentó sostenidamente  entre el primer y quinto día. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Teniendo en cuenta estos resultados, las variaciones en cada caso podrían  estar asociadas a la repercusión fisiológica que pudieron ocasionar los  componentes de cada dieta [5, 7,14]. Las especies que presentaron una tendencia  parabólica del consumo en el tiempo, quizás se debió a que después de los  primeros días en contacto con el alimento, los animales comenzaron a rechazarlas  por algún factor inhibitorio del consumo; caso contrario sucedió con <I>P.  pedicellare</I>,<I> T. diversifolia</I> y <I>L. leucocephala, </I>las cuales después de una  etapa inicial de bajos consumos, éstos aumentaron sustancialmente. En este  caso, los animales pudieron haberse adaptado fisiológicamente a consumir  dichos forrajes [22]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Al respecto, algunos estudios han determinado que los rumiantes se encuentran  provistos de defensas fisiológicas, tales como la secreción bucal de proteínas  con elevadas proporciones de prolina e hidroxiprolina, la adaptación de  las bacterias ruminales para degradar compuestos nitrogenados no proteicos  en condiciones de estrés, la conjugación de compuestos tóxicos con azufre  endógeno y la hidrólisis ácida de los glucósidos saponínicos mediante bacterias  especializadas, como mecanismos para contrarrestar la presencia de algunos  metabolitos, tales como los fenoles, taninos, cianógenos, saponinas y alcaloides  [10]. </FONT></P>      <p ALIGN="CENTER"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b><font COLOR="000000">TABLA II. </font></b><font COLOR="000000">METABOLITOS SECUNDARIOS EN EL FOLLAJE DE ÁRBOLES FORRAJEROS UTILIZADOS EN EL ENSAYO DE CAFETERÍA CON CABRAS/ SECONDARY METABOLITES IN THE FODDER TREE FOLIAGES S UTILIZED IN THE CAFETERIA TEST WITH GOATS.</font></font></p>     <div align="center">       <center>   <table width="500" border="1">     <tr>       <td VALIGN="TOP" ROWSPAN="2" align="center">             ]]></body>

FT: fenoles totales, TC: taninos condensados, Inh: porcentajes de inhibición de la tripsina, Alc: alcaloides, Cum: cumarinas, Terp: terpenos, Sap: saponinas, C. amargos: compuestos amargos EEM±: Error estándar de la media.</font></p>     <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> En el caso del tercer grupo, que incluyó al árbol del Nin y al Samán, las  especies fueron muy poco consumidas, quizás porque los animales durante  la etapa de evaluación no se pudieron adaptar a consumir determinados compuestos  presentes en la biomasa, que en otras investigaciones realizadas con dichos  forrajes se han informado [6]. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Teniendo en cuenta que <I>M. alba</I> y <I>C. tinctoria</I> fueron las especies mayormente  consumidas, y que su consumo se incrementó en la primera parte de la evaluación,  resalta la factibilidad de estos forrajes en la alimentación de las cabras. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Asimismo, se observaron diferencias acentuadas en la palatabilidad absoluta  entre los forrajes leguminosos evaluados. Esto pudiera sugerir que existen  características singulares que las hacen muy diferentes desde el punto  de vista nutricional, y enfatiza la necesidad de utilizar en la dietas  de los rumiantes plantas de otras familias botánicas que también presenten  aceptable valor nutritivo y palatabilidad. Por ello, la rápida identificación  de ramones preferidos por Ios animales podría incrementar la adopción de  éstos en los sistemas agropecuarios donde los árboles y arbustos constituyan  la fuente suplementaria primordial de proteínas. </FONT></P>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> Considerando los resultados desde el punto de vista integral, éstos demuestran  la importancia de involucrar al componente animal en las evaluaciones iniciales  de árboles y arbustos tropicales con elevadas potencialidades para ser  integrados a las prácticas agroforestales en el trópico. </FONT></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><B><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> CONCLUSIONES </FONT></B></P>      <P align="justify" style="word-spacing: 0; line-height: 100%"><FONT COLOR="000000" size="2" face="Verdana"> En la prueba de cafetería realizada con cabras la especie más consumida  fue la Mora <I>(C. tinctoria)</I>, seguida por <I>M. alba</I> y <I>P. pedicellare</I>; mientras  que <I>G. sepium</I>, <I>G. ulmifolia, C. alba, T. gigantea </I>y <I>T. diversifolia</I> fueron  medianamente apetecidas.
