La Asociación americana de Diabetes (ADA), Asociación Americana de Educadores en Diabetes (AADE) y la Sociedad Europea de Endocrinólogos Clínicos, recomienda mantener las glucemias en hospitalización en rango entre 140 mg/dL, y 180 mg/dL.  Objetivo: Para este estudio se planteó determinar el efecto de la Hiperglicemia intrahospitalaria sobre la morbimortalidad en pacientes sometidos a cirugía cardiovascular en el Centro Médico Docente la Trinidad (CMDLT), en periodo de enero 2018 hasta agosto 2020.  Metodología: Para el logro de esto se realizó un estudio observacional analítico retrospectivo, donde se recolectaron los datos de 59 pacientes con diagnósticos de hiperglicemia intrahospitalaria sometidos a cirugía cardiovascular con una muestra total de 37 pacientes.  Resultados y conclusiones: Se observó que existieron mayores complicaciones médicas que quirúrgicas, de estas las más frecuentes fueron injuria renal aguda, fibrilación auricular, y trastorno acido base, así mismo las variables más relacionadas con complicaciones médicas fueron: pacientes con glucemias al ingreso &gt; 180 mg/dl, excursiones glucemias amplias, glucemia al egreso &#8805;140 mg/dl, así mismo se observó que la variabilidad glucémica fue el principal factor de riesgo a considerar para determinar riesgo de morbimortalidad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In-hospital hyperglycemia is defined as a glucose value &gt;140 mg/dL; this value may be present in individuals with known Diabetes without previous diagnosis and patients who present hyperglycemia during hospitalization secondary to stress phenomena. The American Diabetes Association (ADA), American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) and the European Society of Clinical Endocrinologists recommend maintaining hospitalized blood glucose levels between 140 mg/dL and 180 mg/dL.  Objective: For this study, it was proposed to determine the effect of intrahospital hyperglycemia on morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery at the La Trinidad Teaching Medical Center (CMDLT), in the period from January 2018 to August 2020.  Methodology: To achieve this A retrospective analytical observational study was carried out, where the data of 59 patients diagnosed with intrahospital hyperglycemia who underwent cardiovascular surgery with a total sample of 37 patients were collected.  Results and conclusions: It was observed that there were more medical complications than surgical ones, of which the most frequent were acute kidney injury, atrial fibrillation, and acid base disorder, likewise the variables most related to medical complications were: patients with glycemia at admission &gt; 180 mg/dl, wide glycemic excursions, glycemia at discharge &#8805;140 mg/dl, likewise it was observed that glycemic variability was the main risk factor to consider to determine the risk of morbidity and mortality.]]></p></abstract>
