Se evaluaron los insecticidas organofosforados (malatión, pirimifos metil y temefos) y el carbamato (propoxur). Se encontró resistencia al malatión en las tres cepas, con valores de FR50 de 69,50x; 150,6x y 113,52x; para las cepas Girardot, Mario Briceño Iragorri y Urdaneta, respectivamente; sugiriendo esta diferencia en los niveles de resistencia a este insecticida, que la naturaleza del fenómeno es focal. Todas las cepas resultaron susceptibles a los organofosforados pirimifos metil y temefos, y al carbamato propoxur. Estudios con sinergistas PB y DEF demostraron que las enzimas del grupo multifunción oxidasas están implicadas en el desarrollo de la resistencia al malatión. Los resultados aportan información referencial, sobre el comportamiento de las cepas frente a insecticidas durante el periodo de estudio y deben ser tomados en consideración para la implementación de estrategias para el manejo y vigilancia de la resistencia a insecticidas a nivel local.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[In the present study the levels of resistance to insecticides in larvae of Aedes aegypti were determined in three municipalities of Aragua state, Venezuela (Girardot, Mario Briceño Iragorri and Urdaneta), in comparison with a susceptible strain (Rockefeller), through the WHO method of immersion. The organophosphorous insecticides (methyl malathion, pirimiphos methyl and temephos) and the carbamate (propoxur) were evaluated. Malathion resistance was found in the three strains, with values of FR50 69.50x, 113.52x and 150.6x to the strains from Girardot, Mario Briceno Iragorri and Urdaneta respectively, suggesting that differences in the levels of resistance to this insecticide, is a phenomenon of focal nature. Este insecto es un díptero  perteneciente a la familia <font SIZE="2">Culicidae, Sub-género Stegomyia  Theobald, 1901, uno de los más estudiados en salud publica en virtud de su  importancia como vector de algunos virus que constituyen serios problemas de  salud, tanto al hombre como a otros vertebrados en América, África y Sureste de  Asia (WHO,1986a; Tabachnik, 1991). Se encuentra disperso entre de las latitudes  45°N y 35°S, en las zonas isotermales intermedias, y es altamente susceptible a  temperaturas extremas (CDC, 1980; Salvatella, 2005). Una de las principales  arbovirosis que transmite éste </font>vector es el dengue, que en nuestro  continente se <font SIZE="2">mantiene debido a las malas condiciones de vida que  aun persisten en estos países, lo cual constituye una de las principales causas  de sus reemergencias y que expone a un alto número de personas al riesgo  potencial de ser afectados por esta patología con el consecuente impacto en la  salud publica (Rodríguez <i>et al.</i>, 2004).</p>     <p align="justify">Las estrategias o programas de control de <i>Ae. aegypti </i> están basadas en el concepto de control integrado, considerando el saneamiento  ambiental y la educación sanitaria como herramientas principales a fin de lograr  la participación comunitaria en la eliminación de criaderos positivos y  potenciales de éste insecto; no obstante, a menudo es necesario el uso del  componente químico para las operaciones de control (WHO, 1984; 1986a) </p>     <p align="justify"> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Uno de los principales obstáculos en la aplicación del control químico, lo constituye la resistencia que ha desarrollado este vector a una variedad cada vez más elevada de insecticidas órgano sintéticos; lo cual favorece la transmisión de la enfermedad y se transforma en una gran amenaza para la salud en el ámbito mundial (WHO,1986b). </SPAN ></p>     <p align="justify"> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >La aparición continua de casos de dengue en el estado Aragua, Venezuela, permite especular que la situación del dengue en esta entidad es de carácter endémico, lo cual, unido al problema de la resistencia a insecticidas y al hecho de que el número de compuestos en este campo es bastante reducido, fueron factores considerados para la realización de esta investigación, la cual se propuso determinar los niveles de resistencia a insecticidas en tres municipios del estado Aragua en Venezuela, considerando como premisa fundamental que la resistencia a insecticidas es focal (Brogdon &amp; Mc.Allister, 1998) y que su manejo debe ser específico, lo cual se traduciría en una mejor utilización de los mismos y en una mejor aplicación de los programas de control de éste vector. </SPAN ></p>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:700" >MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-weight:normal" >Insectos </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >La muestra estuvo comprendida por mosquitos </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-weight:normal" >Aedes aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de los municipios Girardot (10º35’02’’N, 62º59’12’’ O), Mario Briceño Iragorri (10º35’02’’ N, 62º59’12’’ O) y Urdaneta (09º39’42”N, 66º50’04”O), colectados en fase inmadura de criaderos potenciales urbanos durante estación lluviosa en los años 2002 y 2003 entre las 8:00 y 18:00 horas y luego desarrolladas en el insectario del Centro de Estudios de Enfermedades Endémicas y SaludAmbiental (CEEESA), del Instituto de Altos Estudios en Salud “Dr. Arnoldo Gabaldon” (IAES). Como patrón susceptible a insecticidas se evaluó la cepa Rockefeller suministrada por el Centers for Disease Control (CDC), San Juan de Puerto Rico. </SPAN ></P>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-weight:normal" >Insecticidas </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Fueron evaluados soluciones cetónicas de los insecticidas organofosforados: malatión (96%), pirimifos-metil (92%) y temefos en presentación grado técnico (GT), sin valor comercial, suministrados por la compañía Internacional de Insecticidas C.A. (INICA) y el carbamato propoxur, suministrado por Bayer de Venezuela. A partir de soluciones madres fueron preparadas distintas concentraciones siguiendo técnicas de volumetría. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Como sinergistas fueron utilizados: Butóxido de Piperonilo (PB) y S,S,S,- tributil fosforotritioato (DEF) inhibidores de las enzimas multifunción oxidasas y esterasas, respectivamente. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-weight:normal" >Ensayos biológicos </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Los bioensayos se realizaron siguiendo el método de inmersión de la World Health organization (WHO, 1981), exponiendo las larvas de tercer estadío tardío o cuarto instar temprano a concentraciones de insecticidas que provocaron mortalidades entre 2 y 98 %. Se utilizaron vasos plásticos desechables (150 mL de capacidad) los cuales fueron llenados con 99 mL de agua de grifo y posteriormente se le añadieron 20 larvas. Se evaluaron 5 concentraciones y 5 repeticiones para cada una de ellas, aplicándoles en cada vaso 1 mL de insecticida en acetona. Para cada concentración se evaluó una repetición como grupo control al cual sólo se le colocó1mLde acetona. Una vez colocado el insecticida se registró la mortalidad a las siguientes 24 horas. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >El análisis de los resultados se realizó por regresión simple a través del método Logaritmo-Probit (Raymond, 1985) y se determinó la concentración letal cincuenta (CL</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub>50</Sub></SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >) y la concentración letal noventa (CL</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub>90</Sub></SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >). </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >El nivel de resistencia de cada una de las cepas evaluadas se determinó a través del cálculo del factor de resistencia cincuenta (FR</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub>50</Sub></SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >) para cada insecticida, sobre la relación de la CL</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub>50 </Sub></SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de la cepa de campo y la CL</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub>50 </Sub></SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de la cepa patrón susceptible Rockefeller, indicando en (X) el número de veces que la cepa de campo es más resistente a un insecticida. Se utilizaron los criterios de resistencia a insecticidas propuestas por la Organización Mundial de la Salud para interpretar los resultados originados de la determinación del factor de resistencia (FR</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub>50</Sub></SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >) y establecer de esta forma, si una cepa es o no resistente a alguno de los  insecticidas evaluados. Estas categorías fueron las </SPAN >siguientes: FR<sub>50: </sub>0-10 =<sub> </sub>susceptible; FR<font SIZE="2" face="Verdana"><sub>50 </sub></font>10-20 = verificación y FR<sub> 50&nbsp; </sub>&gt;20 =<sub> </sub> resistente.<sub> </P></sub></font></font><font SIZE="2"> <font SIZE="2" face="Verdana">     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <span style="font-style: italic">E</span><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-weight:normal" >nsayos biológicos con sinergistas </SPAN ></font></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <font SIZE="2" face="Verdana"> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Para la determinación </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-weight:normal" >“in vivo” </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de mecanismos metabólicos, se realizaron bioensayos siguiendo la </SPAN ></font></font> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >metodología de las pruebas de inmersión similares a las descritas anteriormente (WHO, 1981). (4) horas previas a la aplicación de las concentraciones de insecticidas, se aplicó a cada vaso una dosis sub-letal (0,008mg/ L) del sinergista Butóxido de Piperonilo (PB), un inhibidor del grupo de enzimas multifunción oxidasas e igualmente una dosis sub-letal (5mg/L) del sinergista conocido como S,S,S,- tributil fosforotritioato (DEF), un inhibidor del grupo de enzimas esterasas (Rodríguez </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al.</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >, 2000). <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Por el contrario las tres cepas resultaron susceptibles al pirimifos-metil y al temefos, encontrándose valores de FR50 inferiores a 10x. Situación similar fue obtenida con el insecticida propoxur observándose susceptibilidad en las tres cepas con valores de FR50 &lt;10x. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Mediante el uso de sinergistas se evaluaron en vivo, las enzimas que pudieran estar implicados en la resistencia de las cepas Mario Briceño Iragorri y Girardot al insecticida malatión. <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >De acuerdo con el “factor de sinergismo”, podemos apreciar que la cepa Girardot con la aplicación del butóxido de piperonilo hubo una disminución de la CL</SPAN ><SPAN style="color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" ><Sub><font size="2">50 </font> </Sub></SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de 2,52 veces, lo cual representa el efecto sinérgico y que involucra a las enzimas del grupo multifunción oxidasas en la resistencia detectada al malatión. Por otra parte y en virtud de los resultados, en la cepa Mario Briceño Iragorri ninguno de estos mecanismos estaría involucrado en la resistencia de la cepa frente al malatión </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:700" >DISCUSIÓN</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >La evaluación periódica de la susceptibilidad de los vectores a los insecticidas permite tanto la identificación de los insecticidas a usar en los programas de control, como la adecuada planificación de estrategias para el manejo de la resistencia, a fin de identificar el momento oportuno para realizar cambios en los tipos de insecticidas para mantener las poblaciones de vectores susceptibles. Este trabajo evaluó el estado de susceptibilidad en lavas de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de dos municipios del estado Aragua, Girardot, Mario Briceño Irragori y Urdaneta, con incidencia de dengue y/o altos niveles de infestación de este mosquito. Se determinó que las cepas fueron resistentes al malatión y susceptibles al pirimifos metil y a temefos. En tal sentido, la resistencia al malatión puede deberse al hecho de que en Venezuela este insecticida ha sido y es utilizado ampliamente en salud pública en las campañas de control de dengue e inclusive en la agricultura, lo que ha podido presionar selectivamente a esta especie y causarle los niveles de resistencia encontrados (PAHO, 1990). La presión de selección ejercida sobre los adultos se pudiera estar manifestando, como condición hereditaria en las formas larvales. A este respecto la OPS (1997) señala que la resistencia de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >a malatión se ha difundido por todo el Caribe y en algunos países de América Central y América del Sur. <body><![CDATA[<P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <font face="Verdana"> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000" >Para aclarar el origen y la dinámica de la resistencia a insecticidas es fundamental investigar sobre los aspectos bioquímicos y genéticos de la </SPAN ></font> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >resistencia. La identificación de los mecanismos de resistencia es básica para seleccionar con mayor seguridad los insecticidas a usar en los programas de control y evaluar el potencial de desarrollo de resistencia a insecticidas alternativos. En el caso de mecanismos metabólicos, los mismos logran evidenciarse con el uso de sinergistas, ya que estos potencian la acción de los insecticidas inhibiendo la actividad de algunas enzimas, teniendo que el sinergista S,S,S,-tributil fosforotritioato (DEF) inhibe las enzimas esterasas y GST, mientras que el sinergista butoxido de piperonilo (PB) inhibe las enzimas del grupo multifunción oxidasas. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >En este trabajo, se demostró con el uso de sinergista PB que las enzimas del grupo multifunción oxidasa actúan como mecanismo de resistencia frente al malatión en las cepas Girardot y Mario Briceño Iragorri, mientras que con el sinergista DEF se encontró que las enzimas esterasas participan como mecanismo de resistencia al malatión en la cepa MBI. Los resultados concuerdan con los reportados por Bisset </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al. </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >(2007) quienes han documentado la participación de las enzimas metabólicas basadas en la alta actividad de esterasas en la resistencia a insecticidas organofosforados en poblaciones naturales de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > en distintos países de Latinoamérica. Ahora bien, en relación al pirimifos metil, las tres cepas resultaron susceptibles ya que los valores de FR50 fueron inferiores a 10x; sin embargo, Rodríguez </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al. </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >(1999) al evaluar larvas de una cepa de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de Santiago de Cuba, encontraron que la misma mostraba resistencia moderada al pirimifos– metil. Posteriormente Bisset </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al.</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >(2003), reportaron resistencia en larvas de dos cepas de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de Panamá a pirimifos-metil. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Los resultados encontrados en la presente investigación sugieren la vigilancia periódica de la resistencia de las poblaciones de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de los municipios evaluados a este insecticida a fin de conservar en las poblaciones el carácter susceptible a este insecticida en virtud de que resultaron resistentes al malatión e implementar la rotación de insecticidas en forma sistemática a fin prevenir una posible resistencia cruzada entre insecticidas organofosforados. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >Con respecto al temefos encontramos que los valores de FR50 fueron bastante bajos en las tres cepas lo cual indica la alta efectividad que aún presenta éste </SPAN > <SPAN style=" font-weight:normal; font-family:Times New Roman,Times New Roman,serif; font-size:8pt; font-style:normal" > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >insecticida para el control de poblaciones larvarias de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > en los tres municipios evaluados. </SPAN ></SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >En Venezuela, el organofosforado temefos granulado al 1% es el principal y único larvicida químico usado por los programas de control de dengue, dado su uso continuo durante más de 40 años resulta sorprendente la susceptibilidad de las poblaciones de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Aedes aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >a este insecticida. En Venezuela solo se ha detectado resistencia muy puntual en mosquitos del estado Apure (Rodríguez </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al.</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > 2001). </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > Wirth &amp; Georghiou,(1999) en las Islas Vírgenes Británicas, demostraron que </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >tenía el potencial de desarrollar altos niveles de resistencia al temefos en virtud de la aplicación de una intensa presión de selección, pero que esta resistencia disminuía cuando se interrumpía la referida presión, sugiriendo estos autores que la resistencia al temefos es inestable en la ausencia de presión de selección por lo que señalaron esto como una posible causa de la efectividad mantenida en el tiempo del temefos. Mekuria </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al.</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >, (1991), encontraron resistencia al temefos en </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >de Santo Domingo, señalando que la misma se debía a que éste era el insecticida de elección para el uso en los criaderos domésticos y peridomésticos. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >En el mundo es cada vez más frecuente encontrar registros de resistencia a temefos. En Brasil la resistencia a este larvicida está presente en varios estados, entre ellos, Río de Janeiro, São Paulo; Espíritu Santo y Goias (Braga </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al.</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >, 2004). También Cárdenas (2007) y Fonseca (2008) reportaron resistencia a temefos en cepas de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > de Colombia.</SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" > Aun cuando en el presente estudio no se encontró resistencia al temefos, se sugiere la rotación con insecticidas biológicos o inhibidores de crecimiento como forma de conservar poblaciones susceptibles a este insecticida y preservar la vida útil de este producto. Con relación al insecticida carbamato propoxur, también las 3 cepas resultaron susceptibles, lo cual contrasta con los encontrados por Mekuria </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al. </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >(1991), quienes hicieron el primer reporte de resistencia a propoxur en </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >en el área del Caribe. Posteriormente, Solís (2000) encontró resultados similares en poblaciones larvales de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Ae. aegypti </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >en todas las regiones y subregiones de Republica Dominicana.</SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <font face="Verdana"><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000" >La alta resistencia observada al insecticida </SPAN ></font> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >malatión obliga a hacer cambios de insecticidas a fin de retardar el desarrollo de resistencia cruzada con otros organofosforados y carbamatos que resultarían de uso alternativo. Es conocido que ambos grupos de insecticidas ejercen su acción en el mismo sitio, el cual es la acetilcolinesterasa, causando la inhibición de la reacción y haciendo susceptible al individuo expuesto al insecticida (Georghiou &amp; Pasteur, 1978). Existen distintos estudios que hablan de la resistencia cruzada entre los insecticidas organofosforados y los carbamatos. Hemingway </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al. </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >(1990) afirman que existe en larvas, resistencia cruzada entre insecticidas organofosforados y carbamatos a diferentes niveles en cepas de larvas de </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >Culex quinquefasciatus</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >, pero también señala que no se ha comprobado la manifestación del fenómeno en adultos de la misma especie frente a ambos insecticidas. </SPAN ></P>     <P style="text-align:justify; margin-bottom:16px; "> <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >De los resultados obtenidos en el presente trabajo se concluye que existen variaciones en la respuesta frente a los insecticidas en poblaciones de mosquitos, aun dentro de un mismo estado. El estudio realizado a nivel de municipio determinó la naturaleza focal del problema de la resistencia (Brogdon </SPAN > <SPAN style="font-size:10pt; font-style:italic; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:normal" >et al.</SPAN ><SPAN style="font-size:10pt; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal" >, 1999) y debe ser tomado en consideración para la implementación de estrategias para el manejo y vigilancia de la resistencia a insecticidas. El desconocimiento de la realización de estudios sobre focalización de la resistencia a insecticidas conlleva a un mal uso de los mismos, lo que conduce inevitablemente a un manejo errado de la herramienta química en el control de vectores, originando problemas como el incremento de la resistencia a insecticidas en vectores de áreas donde pudiera haberse prevenido o retardado dicho fenómeno.</SPAN ></P>     ]]></body>
