GODINEZ S, Daniel E; HERNANDEZ, Arnulfo; OROZCO, José y GODINEZ S, Erick M. Valuation between the ingestion rate and the survival of larva of blue shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris (Stimpson, 1871) nourish with different concentrations of Chaetoceros calcitrans (Paulsen). Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2003, vol.21, n.2, pp.133-147. ISSN 0798-7269.
A study was made to determine correlation between ingestion rate and survival of blue shrimp, Litopenaeus stylirostris, through its larval development when it was fed with different nutritional regimes. Shrimps were fed with four different concentrations of Chaetoceros calcitrans combined with Tetraselmis suecica and nauplii of Artemia franciscana. Results showed that the highest rate of ingestion and survival was obtained with a combination of 90x103 cél.ml-1 of C. Calcitrans; 10x103 cél ml-1 of T. suecica and 6 naupliiml-1 of A. franciscana. It was found that a positive correlation between survival and ingestion rate exist in all larval stages, showing the highest correlation (r= 0,72) in transition from mysis 3 to postlarva 1. Significant correlation values were found in all cases (P<0.05).
