Abstract

RAMIREZ GALLEGOS, Franklin  and  ESPINOSA, Alejandra. Ocupando la silla vacía representación y participación en el tránsito posconstitucional del Ecuador. CDC [online]. 2012, vol.29, n.81, pp.109-140. ISSN 1012-2508.

The text examines one dimension of the «participatory transit» Ecuador is experiencing after the adoption of the new Constitution (2008): the controversy over modes of configuration of civil society representation in the participatory spaces stipulated by the Constitution and the national legislation; this at the level of specific territories and local power systems. For this purpose an exploratory analysis was conducted of how two municipalities with varying levels of consolidation of local participatory management have implemented a novel mechanism of participation, the «empty chair», which give citizens and groups the power of representation in local councils´ sessions.

Keywords : Empty chair; Socioestatal interfaces; Participatory transit; Civil society representation; Cotacachi; Puerto Quito.
