Domestic violence has been regarded as an important social problem during last years. One of the questions that has generated more interest is the perpetrator profile that is the sociodemographic and psychosocial features that differentiate male batterers from male non-batterers. A raising amount of literature exists on this matter. This piece of research offers a descriptive analysis about the characteristics of the scientific literature that compares male batterers and non-batterers in a limited period. The results show a high uniformity in the origin and method to study this topic. The implications of these characteristics on the results of this kind of research are discussed.
