Objective:
To determine the long-term cardiovascular complications in patients with pre-eclampsia and gestational hypertension and how they influence their quality of life.
Method:
Systematic review of documents belonging to the health field, especially the area of obstetrics and gynecology whose studies analyzed the history of preeclampsia and gestational hypertension and their relationship with the development of long-term cardiovascular disorders.
Results:
32 studies were analyzed, which highlight the importance of considering the history of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy as risk factors for the subsequent development of cardiovascular diseases such as chronic arterial hypertension, ischemic heart disease, venous thromboembolism, death from acute cardiovascular events, and coronary calcifications.
Conclusion:
It is crucial to regularly monitor and maintain healthy lifestyle habits after suffering from hypertensive disorders during pregnancy to prevent the development of cardiovascular disease in the long term.
