Resumen
CABEZAS REYES, Andrea Tatiana et al. The integration of research-based learning methodologies to foster scientific competencies in university students. Prohominum [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.2, pp.137-150. Epub 03-Jul-2025. ISSN 2665-0169. https://doi.org/10.47606/acven/ph0338.
This study analyzes the implementation of research-based learning in higher education, aiming to evaluate its impact on the development of scientific competencies and the professional preparation of students. A survey was designed and administered to 400 university students to gather data on their perception of the research methodologies used in their classes, their impact on academic performance, and students’ motivation to continue conducting research in their field. The methodology consisted of a questionnaire with five dimensions: the application of research-based learning methodologies, the development of scientific competencies, and the impact on academic and professional formation. Responses were classified into five options, ranging from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree," and the results were analyzed using SPSS software. The results showed that 45% of students strongly agree with the use of teaching strategies that promote autonomous research, and 52.5% believe that research-based learning better prepares them to face professional challenges. Furthermore, significant positive correlations were found between research methodologies, scientific competencies, and the impact on professional formation. In conclusion, research-based learning has a positive impact on students' academic and professional formation, although improvements in resources and curricular planning are necessary to optimize its implementation.
