Resumen

BENALCAZAR ORDONEZ, Freddy Javier. Impact and challenges of the flower sector in Ecuador: between social responsibility certifications and labor realities. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.2, e502048.  Epub 15-Feb-2025. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.13381972.

Social responsibility and certifications are fundamental pillars for competitive development in global industries. Companies must consider the economic environment and human and labour rights in a sustainable manner. It is crucial that organizations are socially responsible, comply with laws, and be attentive to the needs of society. In Ecuador, the flower sector has become the main generator of income among non-traditional products. To compete in international markets and position themselves in the eyes of consumers, these companies need to obtain international certificates. These certificates allow them to face high global competitiveness. The research focuses on how certifications in the flower sector affect quality, sustainability and working conditions. It is based on theoretical approaches that analyze social responsibility and certifications in this sector. In addition, a qualitative methodology is used, using documentary analysis to understand the labor problems faced by workers, as well as the commitment that flower companies have with society and the environment. Although certifications have contributed to business growth and job creation in Ecuador, they have not completely solved labor problems. Challenges persist, such as blocking the formation of unions and violating labor rights, as well as environmental pollution.

Palabras clave : business ethics; social responsibility; certifications.
