MARTINEZ-ASMAD, Giovanini María et al. Emotional intelligence and leadership in teachers of a private university in Metropolitan Lima. e-Rev. Multidiscip. Saber [online]. 2025, vol.3, e-RMS08042025.  Epub 25-Oct-2025. ISSN 2960-2467.  https://doi.org/10.61286/e-rms.v3i.183.

Emotional intelligence and teacher leadership are key factors in the process of improving educational quality, as they influence performance, motivation, and the learning environment. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership in teachers at a private university in Lima Metropolitana. The research employed a basic, observational non-experimental, cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. The population consisted of 92 teachers from the faculty of health sciences. Data were collected using the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i) for the Emotional Intelligence variable and the standardized Self-Assessment Scale for Personal and Interpersonal Leadership, adapted for Peru. The reliability of both instruments was assessed, achieving a Cronbach's alpha of 0.89. The relationship between variables was evaluated using Spearman's Rho coefficient with a 5% confidence level. The results demonstrated a direct relationship between the two variables, emotional intelligence and leadership (rs: 0.461; p 0.01). Furthermore, positive relationships were found between the dimensions of emotional intelligence and leadership: intrapersonal (rs=0.432; p=0.02), interpersonal (rs=0.401; p=0.03), adaptability (rs=0.381; p=0.36), impulse control (rs=0.371; p=0.04), and general mood (rs=0.435; p=0.02). In conclusion, it is confirmed that the intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, emotional control, and general mood dimensions of emotional intelligence are positively associated with leadership capacity. Therefore, it is recommended to promote the development of emotional intelligence in the educational field.
