The purpose of the study was to evaluate three diagnostic methods of initial lesion of caries, such as, fiber-optic transilumination, 3,25X magnification, and visual inspection. 40 children between 12 and 15 year-old were evaluated. Data analyses consisted in applying two statistical tests: Anova and minimal significant difference. The results showed that visual inspection and 3,25X magnification was the best method, the transilumination obtained the second place, and the visual inspection the third place.
