Osteoarthritis is the most common disease of the musculoskeletal system. Osteoarthritis is characterized by a dinamic degenerative process in the whole joint. It may occur in any joint of the body such as the temporomandibular joint. However, the etiologic factors and the course of the disease have not been elucidated yet. It is important to know the temporomandibular joint anatomy, the definition, the synonymy, and the general knowledge of the disease to discuss later the etiopathogenesis, the diagnosis, the management, and the prognosis of the osteoarthritis affecting the temporomandibular joint
