In this work the allergic response to denture resin in patiens with DENTURE STOMATITIS (DS) and negative culture for yeast has been determined. Of a total of 60 patients evaluated with an allerged diagnosis of DS, 41 (68.3%) presented a positive culture for yeast (in 32,  78%, Candida albicans was identified with the germinal tube formation and chlamydospore test) and 19 (31.7%) had a negative culture. The allergic patch test was administered to this 19 patients , and 2 cases (10.5%) were positive. On the other hand, out of 10 patients with acrylic dental prothesis without evidence of DS  (control Group), 2 were found with positive culture for yeast (20%), with C. albicans identified in both cases, and with all 10 patients (100%)  resulting in a negative allergic patch test. The results indicate that the allergic response must be considered as an etiological factor for DS.
