LAZARDE, Janet. Estomatitis Subprotésica . Acta odontol. venez [online]. 2001, vol.39, n.3, pp.9-17. ISSN 0001-6365.

Denture stomatitis is a common oral disease in denture wearers. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of denture stomatitis in an elderly Venezuelan population. The study group consisted of 456 patients, 91,86% female and 8,14% male, the main age was 51,68 years, wearing a removable maxillary denture( 75,66% wearing maxillary complete denture and 24,34% partial denture), who were examined in the Oral Medicine Service-School of the Central University of Venezuela. In denture wearers with denture stomatitis the frequency of positive cultures was 51,76% and negative culture 48,24%. The results show that the prevalence of Candida albicans was in 89,4%. This study demonstrates a significant level of oral mucosal mycotic infections in denture stomatitis in Venezuela’s elderly population.
