Abstract

Estudio de la Eficacia del Miconazol Topico (Daktarin® Jalea Oral) en Pacientes con Estomatitis Sub-Protesica Inducida por Candida. Acta odontol. venez [online]. 2001, vol.39, n.3, pp.45-53. ISSN 0001-6365.

ABSTRACT: Denture Stomatitis (D.S.) is a term used to describe certain pathologic changes found in the oral mucosa of denture-bearing tissues. Candida species have been associated with its etiology. The purpose of this study was to prove a new type of treatment for D.S. induced by Candida using topic Miconazole. Thirty out of forty one patients who consulted in the Oral Pathology Service of Dental Faculty at Central University of Venezuela were selected in this study and divided in 3 groups of 10 patients each one: Group A: Patients of this group were medicated 4 times each day with topic Miconazole gel (Daktarin®), for 21 days; Group B: Patients were medficated 3 times each day with topic Miconazole gel (Daktarin®), during 21 days; Group C: Patients of this group were medficated with a placebo during 21 days, 4 times each day. Medication was indicated in the mucosa affected hard palate and on the denture surface. Also, the importance of maintaining oral hygiene was indicated to each patient. The results of this study demostrated that this antimycotic therapy was effective for the treatment of D.S. induced by Candida.
