Abstract Rothia dentocariosa has been implicated in the etiology of different process. It has been associated with dental caries and periodontal disease and some researches has been ocurred that attempted to determined the basis of this relationship. The present review includes some of the principal aspects related to the history, ecology, taxonomy and culture characteristics of this microorganism. It is relevant to emphasize about the morphology, physiology and immunology as well as some considerations about its pathogenesis in order to establish its participation as opportunist´s microorganism in some infection disease.
