SCARANO PEREIRA, Giuseppe Anacleto et al. Detección de Helicobacter pylori en placa dental y en mucosa gástrica de pacientes sometidos a endoscopia digestiva. Acta odontol. venez [online]. 2005, vol.43, n.2, pp.113-118. ISSN 0001-6365.
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in dental plaque and in gastric mucosa. 48 subjects that were submeted to endoscopy for medical indication were selected. In all the patients plaque samples were collected before the endoscopy. DNA was extracted from the samples and evaluated for the presence de H. pylori using Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR) method. After collection of oral samples one biopsy was collected in biopsy gastric of each subject. DNA was extracted and H. pylori identified using PCR method. The presence of Helicobacter pylori was observed in 100% of the samples oral and in 66,67% of gastric mucosa. We verified that 42 pactients (87.5%) presented gastroduodenales alterations and 29 of them (69,05%) presented positive reaction for H. pylori in dental plaque and gastric mucosa. In the 6 subjects with normal endoscopy were registered 3 cases (50%) with simultaneous presence of H. pylori in dental plaque and in gastric mucosa. The results of this study suggest the simultaneous presence of H. pylori in dental plaque and gastric mucosa in high percentage and that the dental plaque can represent reservoirs for this pathogen.
