The objective was to explore the pregnant knowledge and attitudes, about the effect of pregnancy on their oral health. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaire with closed answers, on pregnant from Tucumán, Argentina. Respondents were stratified in 2 groups according to financial support of the health care system: 258 pregnant from the private sector (group I) and 126 from the public sector (group II).The average of age in group I was 23 years old, 42,6% had secondary level education and 61,1% were primiparous. The group II had 19 years old mean, 61,9% had primary studies, 74,7% had two or more children. Reduced percentages in both groups were derived by the physician to dental check-ups during the pregnancy. The percentage was significantly bigger in the group I that knows what type of dental procedures they can receive, without risks for their child. In both group were lower the number of pregnant that received attention in spite of a deterioration in their oral condition. Most in both groups unknown the causes of caries increment or gingival alteration during the pregnancy, as well as dental care that they can receive. In spite of educational levels differences among the groups, this results evidence lower knowledge about the origin and possible causes of oral deterioration during the pregnancy. The demand of attention, regardless of the deterioration suffered in the oral health, was scarce too.
