Abstract

ESCOBAR, Erika et al. Determinacion del linfocito b en biopsias de tejido gingival de pacientes con periodontitis crónica. Acta odontol. venez [online]. 2005, vol.43, n.3, pp.261-268. ISSN 0001-6365.

Abstract Purprose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence and location of the B lymphocyte by its molecules CD19, CD20 and CD22, in gingival tissues from patients with chronic periodontitis according to its expression and variability between patients, among sites within the same patient and his differents among tissues. Material and mhetods: Biopsies from 10 patients with a diagnostic criteria of  chronic periodontitis were evaluated by duplicate for a total amount of 20 samples for histological, immunohistochemical and histomorphometric analysis. Results and discussión: The results showed a high expression of CD22 (57.7%), in contrast with the expression of CD 19 (21.2%) and CD 20 (26.7%), indicating  a high proportion of activated mature B lymphocities in this stage of the disease. The connective tissue showed the mayor expression of this molecules making a significant stadistical difference with those shown in epithelium for CD 22. Significant differences were seeing between patients. Intraindividual site behavior showed high variability in subject 1, for CD 20 markers and homogeneous expression for CD 19 and CD 22. No significant differences were observed for phenotypic markers in patient 2. Conclussions: Results demonstrates the presence of activated B cells in chronic periodontitis patients, with respect to CD 19, CD 20 and CD 22 markers
