Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prosthetic needs of patients who attended the Centre of Attention to Patients with Infectious and Contagious Diseases “Dra. Elsa La Corte” (CAPEI) of the Central University of Venezuela between November 2003 and November 2004. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study of transverse type was done to 300 clinical records. The variables analyzed were: sex, level of instruction and prosthetic needs. The information was grouped and was analyzed by the method of percentages and absolute numbers. Results: 78,67 % of the studied patients belonged to the masculine sex, 49 % of these patients dealed incomplete or finished their studies of high school. As for the prosthetic needs 74,21 % of the patients belonged to the masculine sex and 25,79 % to the feminine sex.  73,67 % needed some type of dental prothesis or denture, of these, 94,12 % was partially edentulous and 5, 88 % totally edentulous. Only 16,29 % of these patients was restored with dentures. Conclusions: The results obtained evidenced  the prosthetic needs of the patients who came to the CAPEI/UCV between November 2003 and November 2004 that were by far larger than those expected.
