Abstract

This paper presents a study carried out in the town of Ocumare de La Costa, Mario Briceño Iragorri county, in the state of Aragua, to determine how likely it is for cancer and pre-cancerous injuries to appear in women of 30 of more years of age; some of whom smoke their cigarettes and or cigars whit the led end inside their mouths, while their wash their clothes in local rivers. The sample used was 20 women who lived in “Cumboto” and “La Trilla”. These women were studied during a period of 5 weeks in July and Agoust of 2004, finding that 36,36% of them presented pre-cancerous injuries in their mouths, by the corners of their lips and in their tongues. None of the subjects studied showed cancerous injuries in the mouths, although they are in a high risk group because of their smoking habits.
