BLANCO-CEDRES, Lucila; GUERRA MARIA, E y RODRIGUEZ, Sebastián. Lactancia materna y maloclusiones dentales en preescolares de la gran Caracas. Acta odontol. venez [online]. 2007, vol.45, n.2, pp.221-224. ISSN 0001-6365.
The objective of the present investigation was to establish the relationship between breastfeeding and the presence of dental malocclusions. A transversal investigation was carried out based on a sample of 226 from the Gran Caracas. A dentist of the department of Pediatric Dentistry of the UCV, previous training and calibration conducted the observations and dental measurements. The statistical analyses were based on the chi-square distribution and the logistic regression model. More than half of the children were breastfed for 6 months or more (58%). The relative risks for children breastfed for a period of lees than 6 months compared with the children breastfed for 6 months or more fluctuated between 3 and 15 for the presence of dental malocclusions. Breastfeeding for 6 months or more prevents dentomaxillofacial anomalies.
