Abstract

The purpose of this report, is to describe the relationship between the periodontal disease and a orthodontic treatment. Supported by a bibliographic review. A descriptive and documental investigation was done. On any of their clinic types, the periodontal disease is characterized by an alteration of color, form, consistency and gingival border volume, adaptation to the neck is tooth, displaying bleeding and exuded. Periodontitis is the development of the gingival inflammation to the bone crest alveolar and bone loss that leads to periodontal bags and dental movements. An orthodontic treatment bad executed in patients with periodontal problems may contribute to a periodontal tissue destruction. In particular, the combination of inflammation, orthodontic forces and occlusion trauma may produce a faster destruction than the one that could occur with the inflammation itself. A clinic case is reported. A 42 years old female patient, with periodontal disease, related to a orthodontic treatment bad performed. Conclusion: It is important the interdisciplinary cooperation between orthodontic and Periodontic specialists, been necessary to perform an accurate diagnosis about the etiologic factors involved, establishing a treatment plan adequate and clinic handling depending on the case to guarantee the patient oral health.
