The expression myiasis, derived from the Greek myia meaning fly, applied to define invasion of body tissues or live animals cavities by worms;1 that for some time feed of live or necrotized tissues, body liquid substances or ingested food.2 Oral myiasis is a rare condition which may present in periodontal pockets, wounds from dental extraction, open wounds in general, and various regions inside oral cavity.3 The diagnosis rely upon clinical manifestations and the worms can be identified through labs exams. The treatment should be directed to complete worm removal, besides chemoterapy use. The purpose of this study is to report a rare case of oral and maxillofacial myiasis in a 40 year old patient evolving to death.
