GUERRA, María Elena et al. Relación entre lactancia materna y transmision del VIH/SIDA. Acta odontol. venez [online]. 2009, vol.47, n.2, pp.313-319. ISSN 0001-6365.
There is a risk to transmit HIV/aids trough breastfeeding from mother HIV(+) to their children. However UNICEF, have suggested positive effect of exclusive breastfeeding to children from HIV(+) mother the first 3 life months. Study to relationship between breastfeeding and HIV/aids infection. Retrospective study from revision of 257 records of children vertically exposed at HIV before 2 years old. There is a difference between breastfeeding and seroconversion, 88,4% HIV (-) had less than 3 months of breastfeeding, 100% HIV(+) had more than 3 months. Also, the VIH (+) presented a period average of breast-feeding of 11 months (=5,03 months), whereas the VIH (-) exhibited an average of 5.5 months (=5,2 months). Finally we can say that the exclusive breastfeeding by a period of three months in children of mothers VIH (+) did not show relation with the seroconversión in the studied group.
