Miofunctional therapy comprises in all muscular exercises that may help correct muscular anomalies as well as parafunctional habits favouring the optimal development of the stomatognatic system. Noxious habits represent an important percentage of the etiological factors of the orofacial muscular desbalances. Main parafuncional habits are digital sucking, the use of pacifier and feeding bottle, lingual thrust and the oral breathing that produce negatives effects in the oral and dental structures, where we have to apply specific therapies. Pediatric dentist must handle techniques of miofunctional therapy to prevent or treat as early as possible the malocclusions allowing a well-balanced development of the stomatognatic system
