Summary With the objective of establishing izosyme electrophoretical patterns of cocoa phenotypes, Theobroma cacao L., belonging to El Paraiso, La Vega de Santa Cruz and La Isleta plots from the zone of Cumboto, Aragua state, starch gel electrophoretic analysis were performed of the izosymes malate dehydrogenase (MDH), diaphorase (DIA), fluorescent esterase (FLE), phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI) and aspartate amino trasferase (AAT), whose activities were determined in starch gel. Results indicated that enzyme systems were polimorphic and MDH showed the greatest degree of this trait. Furthermore, the establishment of band patterns that allowed the characterization of cocoa groups analyzed was possible, however an appropiate differentiation between them was not feasible because common band patterns were obtained. The variability present in these cocoa types, because of natural hibrydization, was shown
