Abstract

SOTO, Enio; ARNAL, Eustaquio; ROMERO, Rafael  and  RAMOS, Fidel. CARACTERÍSTICAS AGRONÓMICAS Y PRODUCTIVAS DE PROGENIES DE COCOTERO ALTO POR ENANO, FALCÓN-VENEZUELA. Agronomía Trop. [online]. 2003, vol.53, n.1, pp.17-32. ISSN 0002-192X.

Summary Three coconut hybrids and the type Criollo Tall (CT) coconut were evaluated during 3 years in the locaiity of Boca de Aroa, Falcón State. The hybrid used as a mother was the cultivar Golden Darwf (GD), and as pollinators the cultivars Niuleka (NL), CT and Panamá Tall (PT). With a randomized block design of 3 replications and 5 plants per plot, vegetative and productiva variables were evaluated as well as incidence of main pests and diseases. Significant differences were found among cultivars and among years in all vegetative variables, with the exception of emission of spadices which was significant oniy among years. Cultivars GD x CT and GD x PT exceeded widely the control in number of leaves, while the control had greater plant height and harvest height. Significant differences among cultivars and among years were found in the analysis of productive variables such as number of bunches collected, fruits per plant (FP), and copra per hectare (Che), whereas in fruits per bunch only significant differences among cultivars occured. Pests and diseases diagnosed were: mites, Rynchophorus palmarum, ants, spots in fruits caused by phytopathogenic fungi and Rhadinaphelenchus cocophilus. The comparative advantage of hybrids with respect to CT is their greater fruit numbers and production of copra per hectarea, due to a greater fruit production per plant.
