PARDO ROLDAN, Adriana y MARIN R., Carlos. CARACTERIZACIÓN DE CULTIVARES DE AJO EN CUBIRO, ESTADO LARA. Agronomía Trop. [online]. 2003, vol.53, n.4, pp.01-09. ISSN 0002-192X.
The objetive of this work was the characterization of tweive cultivars of garlic, Allium sativum L., based on morphological plant characteristics such as plant height, number of leaves, length and width of leaves, and characteristics of bulbs such as number of aerial cioves diameter and weight of bulbs and yield. Cultivars were colleted from diverse horticultural regions of Jimenez Municipality, Lara State during the period 1997 to 1998. A randomized block design with three repetitions and tweive treatments was used and data were processed by univariate analysis. Resuits showed that in regards to foliage related characteristics cultivar AN-1 had highest average leaf length and width, followed by cultivars BO-4, PAL-1, and AN-2. Regarding bulb related characteristics, cultivar PAL-1 had highest averages for bulb diameter, buib wieght, number of aeriel cloves and yield. This cultivar has potential agronomic attributes for future breeding programs.
