In Venezuela the red rice weed not only decrease the yield and milling of cultivated rice, but also, due to its control, increase the cost of production of rice. In this paper we evaluated the relationship between red rice of black glumes and long awn on yield and quality of ZETA 15 and FONAIAP 2000 which are normally sowed in Venezuela, during two consecutive years (2000 and 2001), in a randomized block with split-plot design, where the varieties ZETA 15 and FONAIAP 2000 were the main effect, and the length of the interference (0, 15, 30, 45, 60, and 130 days) were the secondary factor. There were three replicates for each treatment. Due that there was not homogeneity of variance between years, each year was analyzed individually. The height, the number tiller m-2 and shoot biomass higher than ZETA 15 and FONAIAP 2000. The number tiller m-2 of ZETA 15 was higher than that of FONAIAP 2000, which could allow ZETA 15 to face the negative effect of red rice interference better than FONAIAP 2000. The interference of red rice decreased the number of tiller m-2, and aerial biomass of ZETA 15 and FONAIAP 2000, but there was not effect on the high of these varieties.
