In order to identify promissory germplasm of 'Criolla' orange, Citrus sisnensis Obs., in the community of Macanillas, two orchards planted with varieties 'Criolla' and 'Valencia' were sampled. Five plants of Valencia on rootstock 'Volkameriana' and three on 'Cleopatra' as well as eight of 'Criolla' were selected. Criolla plants were selected according to the producers criteria as to fruit quality with respect to size, taste, number of seeds and/or weight. Four dozen fruits were harvested from each plant and classified by size as big or small. Ten big fruits were randomly sampled by treatment, for a total of 80 fruits per experimental unit (orchard). Determinations were made of weight, equatorial diameter/polar diameter, shell thickness, juice percentage, seed number, total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity and the relationship TSS/titratable acidity. Results indicated that 'Criolla' accessions exhibited differences in fruit quality, in general had smaller fruits with more seeds and a superior chemical quality than 'Valencia.'
