TAVARES-MARQUES, Lucinda  e  REYNA-BELLO, Armando. Standardization of pcr technique for diagnosis of bovine and ovine anaplasmosis. Agronomía Trop. [online]. 2006, vol.56, n.4, pp.501-510. ISSN 0002-192X.

Bovine anaplasmosis is a disease caused by Anaplasma marginale (A. marginale), an intra erythrocytic bacteria classified within the a-proteobacterias.In Venezuela, 46% of cattle are infected with this disease producing major herdlosses. However, incidence of the disease in sheep is unknown. The objectiveof this work was to standardize the PCR technique for the detection of A. marginale in bovine and sheep blood. Ana19A and Ana19B specific primerswere used to amplify the gene of Major Surface Protein 5 (MSP5). With thepurpose of evaluating the standardized technique, bovine blood samples froman endemic zone were analyzed, resulting positive 40% of them. With respectto ovines, 25% of samples analyzed were positive. In conclusion, this techniquehas shown its versatility in the detection of Anaplasma sp. Another importantaspect is that these results show the presence of MSP5 gene from Anaplasmasp. on small Venezuela’s ruminants, which before had not been determined bymolecular methods.
